Later that day, I feel my phone buzz in the pocket of my jeans. I pause my episode of Pretty Little Liars and check the screen. Oh yay, a new message. This one is from the school, telling me about the upcoming Snow Ball. I sigh. The last thing I need right now is to be seen with Jack in front of all my friends, but I still really want to go with him. A notification pops up on top of the current message. It's Jack inviting me to the Snow Ball. Yes :) I reply. I have 6 weeks to fix things with my friends or else I lose them for good. Yay. I put my phone away and un-pause the episode.
The next day
I wake up the next morning and immediately jump into the shower. Changed into ripped skinny jeans, a cream colored sweater, and with my makeup on I go for breakfast.
When I finish eating, I quickly grab my things, put on a jacket and boots and race to school early.
In the courtyard, I hunt down Marisa. When she sees me, she runs towards me. Expecting her to slap me, I brace myself. Instead, she hugs me. I hug her back.
"Olivia, what you did to Anna and Riley doesn't concern me at all. I'm so sorry for what I said. Do you forgive me?" she asks. I nod.
"Aw, Mar, of course I do. I love you girl" I hug her again, in some sort of disbelief. That was fast. Since when are my friends so forgiving? When she pulls away from the hug, I smile at her. She smiles back. We go to our separate classes after a sweet goodbye. I want to suspect something, but I don't want to at the same time.
After my last class before lunch, I bump into Anna on my way out of Mr. Rogers' classroom. She looks up at me, stunned. Before she can say anything, I weave around her and run down the hall, not looking back.
As I walk by my usual table in the cafeteria, a few of the girls give me very dirty looks. I'm about to find somewhere else to sit when Marisa drags me onto the seat beside her.
"Sit down!" she smiles at me. I cautiously smile back. On the bench across from us, Riley, Bethany, Krystal and Anna are all sitting. 2 out of the 4 are glaring at me. I look away.
"So, are you guys going to the Snow Ball?" Bethany asks excitedly? Everyone, including me, shakes their head. Bethany frowns.
"Come on guys, what if we went together? Wouldn't that be fun?" she suggests hopefully.
"I'm actually busy that night", I lie, "my mom needs me to help out at a banquet thingy for her work". Everyone looks at me. I shrug.
"She needed volunteers" I mumble. Oh God... Am I turning into a pretty little liar? Dismissing the thought I loks down.
"Well, maybe we could help out!" Marisa suggests, smiling. I sigh, knowing I can't keep this lie up.
"Okay, I'm just going to be honest with all of you, my mom isn't having a banquet. I'm actually going to the Snowball with Jack but I knew that if I just told you guys you would get all peeved off because Jack has caused problems between us. So go ahead, talk about me behind my back and roll your eyes, because I honestly don't care anymore" I say and quickly get up from the table. Ignoring Marisa, Krystal, and Bethany calling my name, I set my tray on top of a garbage can and run out of the cafeteria. Well, what now?
As the 2:45 bell rings, I try to outrun Krystal, who was sitting behind me in our last class. I quickly grab my bag and race for the door. Outside, Krystal is only a few feet behind me.
"Olivia!", she calls, "just let me talk to you!". I cross the street and run on the sidewalk. Thank god I decided to wear boots today, not flats. I look back to see where Krystal is and notice that she stopped and is breathing hard about 20ft behind me. I'm about to stop when I hit someone. As I'm on my way to the ground, they catch me. I look up and see Jack.
"Olivia! Why are you running?" he asks me, concerned. I look back nervously and see that Krystal is coming towards us, fast. I look up at him.
"It's complicated" I say quietly. He frowns.
"Olivia! We need to talk" Krystal comes up from behind me and puts her hand on my shoulder. I turn to her.
"Okay then. Do you want to come over?" I ask. She nods.
"Sure" she says. I look at Jack.
"I have to go. Call me later, okay?" I ask him. He nods.
"Bye, Olivia" he says. He kisses me on the cheek and walks down the street. I turn to Krystal.
"Lets go, then" I say had we walk back to my house.
We sit in my kitchen with two coffees on the counter in front of us.
"What was that? Today at lunch, I mean" Krystal asks me. I bite my lip. I tell her everything that happened in the past month. When I'm done, she just looks at me.
"I'm so sorry" she finally says. I try to smile.
"Thanks. It's been tough, but I'm on the mend of repairing things" I shrug. She gently squeezes my arm.
"You know I'm here for you, right? Whenever you need to talk, even if it's 1:30 in the morning, I will be there for you" she says quietly. I smile for real this time.
"Thank you. Thank you so much. I can't even tell you how much it means to me" I say. She purses her lips.
"Your welcome. I should go now, I've got field hockey practice at 5:00" Krystal says and stands up. I stand up too. We walk over to the front door.
"Thank you for talking" she says and hugs me. I hug her tightly back.
"Thank you for listening" I smile. She steps out of the door.
"See you tomorrow!" she says happily. I grin and wave.
"Okay. Bye Krystal!". She smiles and walls away from my house. I close the door and lean up against it, exhaling. 1 problem down, 2 to go.
