The Letter

August was the time to be busy evidently. The boys were on tour, Weslyn was getting started on her photography company, Layla had a new acting job out of town, Lucy was getting ready to start school in September, and Mandy was moving in with Johnny. So it was only fitting that Weslyn was also put in charge of little Lucy while both her parents were out of town.

She'd been making breakfast for Lucy, when the mail came in through the door slot. Lucy heard the flap slam shut and ran to collect the letters, hoping there was one from Maria. She came back looking disappointed. She handed Weslyn the mail and sat down to eat. Weslyn sat next to her and flipped through the white envelopes.

"Let's see here, one for Paul, another for Paul, Paul, Paul, Oooh me!" She put it on the table by her left elbow, "Paul, Paul, Paul, gosh we've got a lot of mail, oh there's another for me!" She put Paul's mail in the growing pile and opened up hers.

"What are they?" Lucy asked as she slurped her cereal. Weslyn read the first one and grinned.

"This one is from your mum. She says she's doing OK, but she misses you and Richie. She hopes to be home before you start up school, so that's good, and she says that she'll see you soon and that she loves you." Weslyn said smiling. Lucy giggled as she took the letter from her to look at.

"What's the other one?" She asked before she picked up her juice.

"Well it's from the U.S. but it doesn't say who it's from." Weslyn said flipping the letter around to look closer at.

"Maybe it's from Paulie!" Lucy said hopefully. She knew how Weslyn missed him and how he'd barely sent her any letters.

"Maybe!" Weslyn said, breaking the seal of the letter. She opened it and read it with a small smile. Lucy waited patiently while Weslyn read the letter.

"What is it??" Lucy asked impatiently.

"It's a letter from Maira." Weslyn laughed. Lucy gasped and got up to get closer to her. Weslyn helped her into her lap.

"Really? What's it say?" She asked hopping up and down in her lap. Weslyn shook her head. Weslyn laughed again and she cleared her throat to read out loud.

"Dear Wes,

Hope you're doing well. Not much has happened here in boring old Georgia. Hope things are more exciting there with you guys. My job as an instructor is going great so far. The little girls I'm teaching remind me so much of Jenna. I'm doing another show in a couple of months as well. It might actually tour outside of the states this time, and I think London is one of the major locations on the list! So maybe if I get the part I'm auditioning for I'll get to see you and the lads, and little Lucy very soon!

Tell Lucy I miss her and a letter will be headed her way as soon as I find the time to write one just for her. Let her know I haven't forgotten about her, and that I will include some photos of my students just to make it up to her.

Tell Geo that I miss him and I hope to see him soon. I haven't heard much from him, but I expect their busy with their Beatlemania. Haha

Anyways, hope to hear from you soon, Love you and miss you,

- Maria ;)

Lucy looked up and smiled at Weslyn, "She's gonna send me pictures!!" She said excitedly, "I can't wait, Wes! And she's gonna come here and dance!" She was overly excited and Weslyn wondered if she should calm her down a little.

"I know, love!" She said just as excitedly, "But hey, what do you wanna do? We can go to the park, or we can go see a film or we can-" Just then the phone rang. Weslyn sighed and put Lucy in her own chair. She answered the phone and found it was Mandy asking to come over. She was bored you see. She said she'd bring along some dinner and a movie to watch. When Weslyn hung up, Lucy came and found her in the living room.

"What are we gonna do now?" Lucy asked, bouncing up and down in front of her. Weslyn grabbed her hands and pulled her to sit down.

"Well," she said smiling, "Mandy is coming over and we're gonna have lunch and then we're gonna hang out here. I've gotta call your mum too, so maybe if she has time you can talk to her for a while." Lucy gasped and clapped.

"Yay!" she said. Weslyn tickled her sides and she giggled and squirmed away. "I miss them." She said after a moment. Weslyn frowned and turned on the TV feeling bored.

"Miss who?" She asked frowning slightly. Lucy sighed a long drawn out sigh as she slumped on the couch.

"I miss everyone!" She said loudly, "I miss Mummy, and Daddy, and Johnny, and Paulie, and Georgie and I miss Maria! And I miss when Georgie smiles and I miss Daddy calling me Goose and I miss Mummy taking me out to ice cream after my football games, and I miss Johnny telling me silly jokes and Georgie's songs! When are they coming home?"

"Well, Daddy, and the rest of the boys will be home on September 21st!" She said trying to sound enthusiastic. Lucy groaned and slumped further into the couch. "And Mummy will be home in two days! That's good, right?"

"Yeah, but I miss Daddy!" She pouted. Weslyn giggled and pulled her to her side.

"I know, and he'll be home before you know it!" She said encouragingly. Lucy sighed and didn't respond. She didn't really have to because that was when Mandy came in. "Hey look, Lu! It's Mandy!" She said loudly. Lucy waved half heartedly and Mandy made a face.

"Well that's not much of a welcome." She said flopping next to her, "What's got the little girl down?"

"She misses her mum and dad," Weslyn said with a pout, "And she misses Georgie, and Johnny, and Paulie too."

"And Maria." She added quickly. She was very quick to make sure no one forgot about her.

"Right," She said, "And Maria." Mandy sighed and looked down at Lucy.

"I miss them too." She pouted back, "It's much too quiet, and I miss John's stupid jokes."

"At least you get phone calls from him!" Weslyn joined in on the pouting, "I haven't heard from Paul since he left."

"Daddy calls me every night," Lucy said, "Maybe you can ask him to let you talk to Paulie while he's still on the line." Weslyn ruffled her hair.

"That's a good idea, Lucy." She said smiling, "But now Mandy is here and I promised we'd call your mummy. So Mandy you go set up to eat and the movie, and I'll dial Mrs. Starkey okay?"

"Okay." both Lucy and Mandy said jumping into action. For a moment there Weslyn thought the evening was going to be depressing.
