I held onto Shawn's hand as hard as I could. I didn't want to leave him again, but as always I had to. The worst part of the day is when we have to go home and we both knew it. He traces my cheek with his fingers and I look into his deep brown eyes. Whenever I look at his eyes I see chocolate. I see a different kind of warmth. The kind of warmth you get when you drink hot chocolate on a cold night. I see the mud after a rain reflecting a rainbow. I see hope."Come on, babe. You have to go. I promise I'll pick you up from the bus stop tomorrow so we can get breakfast, as always." His eyes looked sad when he said those words but his face showed a smile. I sighed and kissed his cheek.
"I hate lying to my parents.""Me too, me too."
He gave me a quick kiss and rubbed my shoulder as I got out of the car a block away from my house. He would follow behind me as I walked everyday.
Now that it was finally summer vacation all we had to worry was about collage. Shawn wouldn't be going to collage, but he insisted that I go. He would move to wherever I was going just to be with me.
I love him.
Now that he is a legal adult at age 19, he got himself a small apartment just recently. It wasn't the biggest, or the cleanest, but it was his.
My parents, however, would not let me forget the fact that I still have 4 days until I'm a legal adult and can move out.
"You're still my baby, Lillith, after your birthday, do whatever you want, but for now, you follow my rules."
Everyday they give me the same speech and everyday I put it to the back of my mind.
As I reached my front door I slowed down and looked back to Shawn who was just turning the corner.
I just can't wait until the four days are over.
My keys nearly fell out of my hand as I opened the door and saw Mom sitting in the kitchen playing on her phone. As I walked in she put her phone down and smiled."How was your day, sweetie? You have fun nature watching?"
Right. That's what I always say I do.
"Ya, Mom, photos aren't going to take themselves." I laughed as I thought of Shawn and I sitting by the lake taking photos of anything and everything I could see. Him staring at me with a smile on his face as I talked about how photography would be such a cool career. He wrapped his arm around me and pointed at a canary sitting on a tree. I took a picture and showed him.
"Honey? Earth to Lillith?" My mom took me back to present time as I looked at her surprised. What I miss?
"Sorry I was just thinking about this incredible canary I took a pic of today."
"That's alright, hunny. You want
to go shopping for a bit tomorrow while there's no one at home?""Sure. Wait, where at you and Dad going?"
" Well, while you were off in Lillith Land, I was talking about your father's and my anniversary. We'll be going to Las Vegas for a week starting tonight after dark so the house is your's."
My face lit up as she said those words and handed me a hundred dollar bill.
"I'll leave money for food and stuff while we're gone."
I didn't complain.
I'll get time with Shawn.
"Cool."
"And no parties!" She winked. She knew I didn't have any friends and we both smiled, only hers was natural.
I walked up to my room to get changed. I closed the door behind me and replaces my shorts and T-shirt with sweatpants and an old T-shirt I found at the corner of my closet. When I jumped onto my bed the first thing I did was grab my phone and start to text Shawn.
Starting tonight my parents are gonna be gone for a whole week! 😁 Anniversary week!!! -Lillith
I'm thinking the beach and ice cream tomorrow night? -Shawn
You know I'm in -Lillith
LOL anyways I'll see you tomorrow. Love ya ❤️ -Shawn
❤️😘 night- Lillith
I put my phone aside and laid on my back staring at the ceiling. Finally. Something good is happening in my life. Now to wait for it to get ruined, and it definitely will, as always.
I closed my eyes and fell asleep with a smile on my face. Nothing can ruin my mood. Nothing.
