Today was my birthday. I had this feeling in my gut that something big was coming. I tried to shake my mind off it. I walked to school and looked for Axil. I found him and Alora talking near my locker. As soon as he saw me his eyes light up. He hugged me and kissed my face all over as sung happy birthday way off key. I blushed as everyone looked at us. I should be used to the attention but it was still new.
It just so happened that there was an eclipse today and during third period we could go out and look at it. I could feel the excitement all over the school. I wish I was as excited as they were. My stomach was in knots. I felt queasy and light headed now and the eclipse was minutes away. I put a poker face on for my friends so they wouldn't worry about me. Axil came to find me as soon as the announcement came on for us to be released outside.
As we walked outside I started hearing whispers in my head. Then everything seemed to slow down. It was as if time itself was at slow speed. My body felt as if it wasn't my own. We walked over to bleachers but it felt as if it took all day to get there. The world was spinning, but I seemed fine to everyone else apparently. Axil looked at me and smiled, his face full of joy.
I remember looking up at the sun with my eclipse glasses on. I could hear the distorted voices of my class mates counting down from 10 as the moon neared full cover. I felt something take over my body as they screamed one. Then the screams of excitement turned to fear as all eyes were on me.
I had risen in the air, time still seemed slow. Sluggishly I moved my arms to my face to see if I was ok. I was shocked to say the least. My veins looked as if I had white light coursing through them. My skin had a slight glow to it almost as if my aura was escaping my body. The whispers grew louder, and I realized they were chanting. The language was unknown to me but it felt familiar.
I closed my eyes and when I opened them I was in an abyss of white light. All around me I saw these people. They were tall and with dark skin. They towered over me, 7 of them in total, sitting in chairs made of trees of light. Their hair bright white, the same light flowed under their skin just as it did on me. I felt as if I should bow to them so I did.
Everything felt confusing but at the same time it felt as if I should be here. Their eyes were white. I felt their souls with my own. They felt powerful and wise. I was so confused but I knew that the question I had would be answered so I waited for them to speak.
"Your powers are strong young soulpath. Tell me what is your name." The head one's commanding voice called to me.
"My name is Kyan, High Chair Alanora." I replied, the name came so easily from my mouth. I was shocked.
"You are more in touch with your gift than what we thought young one. Most cannot recall the names of the high chairs."
"if I may ask, where am I?" I gulped down my fear.
"You are in Paet, home and afterlife of soulpaths. Your journey had just begun young one. I cannot tell you the outcome but you are needed. It has been long foretold that a new High Chair would be chosen in the years to come. With your powers, we believe that to be you."
"I don't understand any of this. Am I to die and become a soulpath here?" I asked fear evident in my voice.
"Young one still your mind, it takes years to master the powers. The path of each High chair is different. You'll know when it is time to take your position. All fear will be lost to you and you will hear my voice inside you. I will merge to become a part of you." Alanora spoke to me. It eased my mind to know that I didn't have to do this quite yet.
"Young Kyan, our time is ending. With this I give you the full powers of the soulpath. Learn them well young soulpath. Until we meet again young Kyan." She bowed at me and the light began to fade.
As I opened my eyes I realized I was sitting next to Axil at the eclipse. It was as if nothing had happened here at all. Still my mind was reeling at the things I learned. I looked down at my hands and noticed that the light still pulsed through my veins very faintly. I knew I needed to just get home and lay down. I'm hoping this was all a dream and a good night sleep would do the trick.
The rest of the day was terribly slow. I knew Axil thought something was wrong but I didn't want to say anything. I finished out the day and put the rest of the books in my locker. I turned around and Axil was already behind me. I put my face in his chest and just hugged him. He pulled my chin up and kissed me tenderly on the lips. I told him I was just tired and needing to go to sleep. I kissed him goodbye and started my walk home.
I said a quick hello to my parents and ran upstairs to my room. Tiredly I threw myself on my bed and I was asleep almost instantly. I didn't really dream which was strange. If not my own, my dreams were usually the feelings of other people. I didn't question it though. The warming rays of the sun beckoned me awake. I stretched and made my way to the bathroom. I looked in the mirror and what I saw next shocked me. My eyes were the color of light. My pupils lost in a warm golden glow. My hair was long, and the color matched my eyes.
There were white streaks throughout my hair, and the white light pulsed through my veins. The aura around me had went from white to gold. The room I was in glowed with the warmth of me. I glowed. This was something new. School would be interesting with these new changes. I heard a voice in my head whispered to me. I feared it was Alanora.
"Worry not Kyan, for I am you. And you are me. They didn't tell you but I am the goddess of light. You won't be joining Alanora for High Chair her time is not yet. For you are the heir to the goddess Paetial. Lost secrets tend to be found. I wasn't prepared for your powers to be this developed yet, so I could talk to you sooner. You are destined for greatness Kyan. For it is you to save Paet." Paetial whispered to me as I stared at my changed in the mirror. Well my life has taken a turn.
