A beautiful singing voice could be heard all throughout the house. As the black haired mermaid drew closer to the young mistress' room; the voice suddenly halted. The young mermaid continued swimming with the tray full of raw fish towards the room. A quiet knock was heard and the beautiful voice hummed in response. Behind the closed door, was a beautiful mermaid sitting on a smooth rock. She had long lilac hair and big matching eyes, her fair skin was smooth and with occasional scales. Her tail full of light purple scales sparkled in the light. On her waist was a tied fabric and pearl chain as well as a cream-colored shell. The female wore a pearl necklace and a simple light purple bra. And lastly, she had a shell with pearls in her hair.

As the young black haired mermaid opened the door, she heard her name being called.

Lana: "Good morning Hannah, how are you today?"

Hannah: "Good morning Lana, I'm well. Here is your breakfast for today."

Lana: "Thank you Hannah, I'm sure it's delicious."

Hannah carefully laid the tray on the desk in front of Lana.

Hannah: "Very well then. Your aunt is coming over for a visit later today."

After a quick nod from Lana, Hannah left the room quietly and went back to her duties as a maid. Lana continued to think about her aunt's scheduled visit that afternoon, wondering why she would like to meet with her after not visiting her family for more than a century.

~Time skip~

Lana arrived in the living room and she saw a mermaid with sad toffee colored eyes, she had glasses placed on the bridge of her nose. Her long eyelashes covered her tearing eyes every time she blinked and her long dirty blonde hair rested on her shoulder.

Lana sat down on the couch before the mermaid and smiled a bitter smile before speaking up.

Lana: "Aunt Sara... What happened?"

Lana spoke slowly and carefully, she was worried about her crying aunt. Sara slowly pushed her hair back and wiped away her tears, she needed to be strong. Sara stopped crying after a few moments, she opened her mouth and spoke with agony.

Sara: "Lana... It's horrible..."

Lana's smile instantly dropped as soon as these words left her aunt's mouth, she began to fear the worst has happened to her dear cousin Christina, however, she did not expect that her aunt's next words were...

Sara: "Lana, your parents were murdered in their sleep while they were on land for business..."

Negative thoughts started racing through Lana's mind, she was not ready for a crisis this big. Lana's thoughts slowly went to happy memories of her childhood while her loving parents were still alive and well. Quickly after that sentence, came another that would change Lana's life forever.

Sara: "Me and Mark decided that it'd be best for you to go live with Christina for the time being, I'll look after the family business and house until you feel like well enough to take over."

Silence filled the room, Lana sat there quietly. She wasn't crying nor was she screaming. She seemed lifeless, she looked like a broken porcelain doll, a beautiful thing that will never be exactly the same.

Sara: "Please understand I am only doing this for you an-"

Sara was then cut off by Hannah who was also in the room. Hannah started yelling at the mermaid over her ridiculously dangerous proposal to keep her beloved mistress and friend out of harm's way. Lana raised her hand, signaling Hannah to stop yelling at her aunt. Lana simply nodded after the yelling ceased. And finally, she spoke. Her voice was cold but confident, cutting through everyone's ears, there was no hesitance to be heard in it.
