It was a calm night like many others - a lovely night by all standards; The moon shone bright above the smooth pavement of the highway, and the beautiful smell of canola in bloom blew through my open car window. It truly was a perfect night for cruising. And cruise, I did. Right past a stop sign.
Now, you would think that at such an hour of night there would be no cops patrolling the highways, but you'd be wrong. In fact, there was one right ahead of me that saw me blow the stop sign and, naturally, pulled me over. Strangely, he also detained a pedestrian for running the same stop sign. Despite the red and blue lights behind me, I was in a rather good mood, and when the officer came to my window, we quickly found ourselves in friendly conversation about home, work, and family.
Suddenly, as if by magic, the cars, the road, and all other resemblances of land disappeared and were replaced by two ships grappled two each other in the open ocean. Oddly, I was unphased by this sudden change, and immediately ordered the sailors now in my charge to drop anchor. The officer did the same for his ship, and we carried on our jolly conversation. Soon though, the talk shifted to punishment for my crime. As if brought on by the darkened mood, I noticed red-tinted water seeping through the deck. Clearly our ship was leaking, but why the red? Blood? I commanded my sailors to head below deck to bail the water and keep us afloat. They made haste to the stairs, neglecting to grab anything to bail with. It was at this moment that I concluded that the red water was definitely from blood, and the blood must be from a ferocious beast killing my sailors, so I called back my orders to bail and ordered the sailors to stay on top deck, but they paid no heed to my warning, and quickly disappeared down the stairs. At this I turned to the officer and commented, "What do they hope to gain going below deck?"
The officer smiled and replied, "Everything." and in one swift motion, he pulled a dagger from his belt, slit my throat, and kicked me into the cold water below.
