Saturday finally rolled around. I cranked up the cool air in my room now that summer has reared its ugly head. I played three piano pieces from my favorite composer Fanny May Mendelssohn. One of the most under appreciated composers of her time, if you ask me. Girls rule and asshole men drool. Because not all men are assholes, but I know of several who are. As I tickled my plastic keys a sense of calm washed over me. My shoulder was sore but it didn't effect my playing too, too much. The room was dark and cold. A perfect fit for me. My hammock bed hung in the corner. I had to use some webbing to keep it attached to the wall. Surprisingly enough I haven't had to use much web at all since my injury. With an exception here and there.
As I finished the last few bars I took a deep breath. I feel way better now that I've brushed up a little. Just then Liz broke my calm by turning the lights on. I covered my eyes and hissed under my breath.
"God dammit, you know I hate these lights. Turn them off! Turn them off!" I yelled. She oblidged.
"Sorry, We're leaving in like 10 minutes I thought I'd let you know," She smirked, "And put on something nice!"
I groaned and got a dress out from my closet. It was white with paisley designs in purple, orange, and blue. The dress paired well with my favorite blue cardigan. Liz was treating me to a very special event. Since their loss, Lillia and a bunch of others decided to throw a special recital for their fans. Some members prepared both solo and ensembles pieces. Liz was playing with the rest of her flute section. Lillia even promised to play a little too. Now, that I cannot wait to see.
"By the way," Liz said on our way out, "Lillia is really excited she convinced our principal Tuba to play. Shes been trying to get him to solo for years." I just nodded. Im sure lots of talented people will be there. I didnt think much of it.
The whole thing was held at latter day universities own recital hall. Liz's Alma Mater. We picked up Rhys along the way. Once we got there Rhys and I took a seat in the center of the room while Liz took to the green room. The program got started about five minutes behind schedule. Apparently Lillia's pep talk ran over. The performers filed into the chorus seats above the stage so everyone could see them. So many amazing performers took the stage that afternoon. Liz with her fellow Flutists play the most incredible rendition of "Jolly Holiday with Mary Poppins" witch took me back to my days as a child. The concertmaster Nick Michol did a duet with one of the Bass players. There were more of course. But everyone was blown away by Lillia herself. She played a rendition of Fantasia with such passion you could see her tear up as she played. The whole room applauded for what felt like an hour. She took at least three bows, and even played an unscheduled, but brief, encore.
Then came the...tuba player. Lillia herself brought him onstage, introduced him a Pierce, and accompanied him. A guy about my height with dark brown hair walked out with her. A few tendrils were longer in the front, held up by the shine of hair gel. He played a medley of John Williams movies scores, the William Tuba Concerto, and everyone was astounded. I didn't know you could make such diverse tones with such a large instrument. He hit every note, and every sound with vim and vigor. I'm always amazed by the talent of Liz's colleges. But this guy...Holy shit, he is in a class all his own. I can understand why Lillia wanted him to perform so badly. When he finished he stood a took a quick bow before speaking.
"Wow, thank you all. Really its so great to perform for you guys, and I hope to speak for the rest of us, when I say we are so happy that we can return all that love to you," His voice was a tender tenor. Smooth as it is sweet. Wait...Why the hell am I noticing this? I could see his eyes were a dull blue, and he had the tendency to wipe his brow after he laughed. His eyes were very expressive when he talked just as when he played. Seriously, why am I noticing these fucking details.
