Continued on from part one...
"If I was forced to wear that many layers in this heat, I wouldn't put up much of a fight either." she mumbles touching his thick body suit, warm to the touch and slick with blood pouring from the wound just under his chin.
Bodies litter the ground, the smell of death lingering in the air and flies attacking the broken flesh. Melanie wipes her hands on the knees of her trousers as she rises, sweat trickles down her bare chest and shoulders soaking the vest she wears. It was a shock when the sun reached the highest point in the sky and everything started to burn, rocks leave blisters on bare skin, leaves sting as you brush them aside and water is less than refreshing.
Nathan huffs kicking the arm of a mercenary as he turns to his brother. "Tanner hasn't thought this through, this one was already dead..." he mumbles to him while approaching, he's glad it's one less person he has to deal with- if this weather can take lives, it means he doesn't have to. It's been two day's since they arrived on the island and today hotter than before, there's less cover from the sun than they would've liked. Tanner's men have destroyed a good portion of the jungle cutting down trees and trampling the wildlife, fires have been set and extinguished on higher ground to make camps.
"I think we should keep moving and get to that camp." Sam states loudly, for the other two to hear. He'd like to get this all over and done with in the next day so they can return home, not linger here on an island and melt.
Melanie wipes wet hair from her face as she joins them. "I agree. I don't want to stay any longer than we have to."
All turn towards the hill, vehicles and tents visible in the distance. Nathan takes the lead as usual, the others following his lead at a distance as they drift to each others side. It's been nearly a year since their feelings for each other came out, it hasn't changed the dynamic of the group luckily as they're keeping it a secret. At first it was hard for them, sneaking around the house and acting as though nothing was different, trying not to say or do the wrong thing around anyone else that might give them a hint and monitoring their body language towards one another. Nathan has noticed something has changed however, the air around them has shifted and he has his suspicions but he's not going to interrogate them about it. It's their business.
"Tanner doesn't seem like a smart guy, we'll be over and done with this once we've swiped the documents from the camp" Sam mumbles, so his brother doesn't hear.
She glances to him with a smile "I'll be glad if it's that easy. I've had enough of this place." she huffs as they start to ascend, this has been a long job for the three of them and only having to spend one last night in the dingy hotel makes her more determined to get it over and done with today. "Hmm, it's not that bad- apart from the whole army we're about to steal from potentially chasing us down. I'll just be happy to not have to sleep in those beds anymore." he responds making her laugh softly.
"I can't wait to get home and actually spend time with you again, although it's not like we can be open about it" she comments.
"Maybe we could be open about it..." he starts and her heads whips around to look at him, a look on her face that tells him it's not worth continuing the conversation but he does anyway. "If I am correct it's been a year next week, on the 5th. I don't really want to spend another year sneaking around, pretending I don't have feelings for you." Melanie blinks looking away from him, it's not like she's embarrassed or ashamed of him- she just doesn't want things to change majorly, it might come as a surprise to some people too especially since it's been an entire year. In another light, it would be nice to be open about everything, to be together without worrying who might be listening. "I know and feel the same. I just don't want things to change too much." when she turns back to him he gives her a weak smile, the look in her eyes tells him she's willing to let everyone know but he can tell she's worried about it. Sam had similar worries, wondering if being open would cause issues, or if the relationship would deteriorate for some reason, it might change everything or nothing at all.
