Struck

"I hope to see you soon" Velamma waving off Aden's cab ride.
This was a new day, what would it offer? , what more surprises? It was a while now since she last visited her cosmetics company headquarters and she dressed up after receiving a memo from a quite annoying employee, Rodgers. A meeting was scheduled.
She sat at the back of her Mercedes talking to her driver.
"So maaam, where di' jah take ya today"
He was from the carribean ,they had this slang I just loved and their bodies well built. I must admit sometimes I had thoughts of grinding him.
"Hihi"
"Uh ma"
"Oh yes, we going to the Kimsili city, Velly headquarters"
"Buckle up tight yo"
     "Oh God I love this guy''mumbled Velamma.

"Make sure everything is perfect" Rodgers speaking, "she's almost here."
Owing to his hyper nature, he had unexplainably rose to the secretary of the managing board, and he was bestowed with making sure all the gatherings were a success.

He was a short one, dark and had these large eyes.. his colleagues frequently referred to him as the walking canon.

"Oh my God she's here, she's here. "
"Hold your horses man, we're set," that was Stacy, their editor,she was the youngest and wore a broad smile everytime.

Velamma walks in, she wore a black blazer, a black Italian musch' business skirt and black heels, polished.

"Welcome Miss, "Rodgers spoke.
" Goodmorning everybody, nice to see you again, have your seats."

"Welcome everyone to our 5th meeting this year, starting us off is the half year finance summary, I can say, everything is going as planned for we recorded a 0.25% rise in revenue"

"On the other side, we have a threat, Trinity,they are a military group who seek control over the better part of our country, we have stores all over the country and we have had two attacks and lost alot of money, Trinity wants to shut us down so the products from their range of companies will sell. "

Velamma's phone rings

"Excuse me."

Velamma walks out to receive the call, it was quite Jared was calling, they had spoken for almost an hour on her way here.

"Hello, Velamma speaking"

"Hello Miss, kindly rush to the Jewel hospital. It's your husband. "

Velamma hanged up and ran to the parking lot.

" Looks like we have to postpone this meeting" Rodgers concluded.

Rushing to the car.
"Yoh ma, what be ki...... "
" Just shut up and drive to the Jewel hospital " shouted Velamma as she got in.
"Wooah... Wooah... Wooah... Ma, ok ok"

Velamma was lost in worry. Her heart beat fast, this was her hubby, barely 5months in marriage.

'Just hold on baby, hold tight am coming, 'she whispered to herself.

"Where is he? where is my husband?" she shouted at the young lady on the other side of the reception.

"Calm down madam "

" Don't you tell me to calm down, where is Jared? Where is my husband?"
"Madam plea.... se"

A nurse approaches the desk

"Excuse me, are you Velamma? "
" Yes, yes it's me"
"Kindly follow me"
She looked at the young lady at the reception with cold eyes as she followed the nurse.
This was a hospital, a big one. Some said it was the busiest others described it as the medical hive.
The air filled with the smell of drugs and detergents.

The nurse showed Velamma a seat by a desk as she sat on the other side.

"Your husband is called Jared?"
"Yes, he's the one. "

" I'm sorry to tell you that your husband was attacked yesterday night on his way to the city, survivors in the car said that they had just come from a court session"

"Where is he"
"He is under oxygen support in the intensive care unit he was shot on the chest , I'm sorry you can't see him right now"

Another nurse came in running.

"Magdalene, you are needed at the Intensive care unit ward 5 immediately, hurry up"

The nurse shot up into the hallway leaving Velamma at the desk.

"Ward 5...ward 5...ward 5.."she whispered going through the check book.

"Bingo,ward 5...uuuhm Jared Bentley... Oh my God it's Jared"

She runs down the hallway to the room with the door written 'ICU 5' and looks through the glass window on the door.

The nurses and two doctors are moving everywhere in the room and she could see her husband on the bed, no movement.
Tears rolled down her eyes as she watched the rush.

Suddenly the doctors stop with hands over their heads and ones of the nurses covers Jared's head.

"No.. No.. Nooooooo.. "she cried out banging her way into the room.

She uncovered her lover's head and cried over his pale face.
" Jared.. Nooo.. Jar.. ed.. Please don't go.. " sniff sniff

"Madam please come with..."
"Let go off me, "cried Velamma," don't dare hold me again"

"Give her some time, let us go out. "said the lead nurse.

" Madam, here's his phone"
Velamma took the phone wiped her tears and took in a deep breath.

"I promise you baby" sniffs "I promise to avenge you.... I promise"

She took a scalpel and and made an x mark on her palm... her vow for vengeance.

Up she stood and covered her lifeless hubby.

Her eyes turned dark, her heartbeat slowed and she felt her heart go cold.
This is the new Velamma.

"I promise"
