Chapter 18: Behold Mother's Idea of Fun and My Confusing Day!
"For it was not into my ear you whispered, but into my heart, it was not my lips you kissed, but my soul." -Judy Garland
"No!" I remarked quickly as I continued to read my book.
"But Evelyn its so pretty."
"Pretty! That's the most poopfy thing I've ever seen! No!" I pushed the white embedded fabric away. It had been four days since, the scandalous kiss and my mother had made it her mission to start focusing more on the wedding as the days passed by. We were currently at a wedding store and my mother was looking at different dresses. My Father had said nothing to me yet, which worried me greatly. This was also the second time I had been with my mother and sisters since the kiss. Things were a little strained between us all.
"You didn't seem to object Shane's mouth, so why are you fighting me with this dress." My mother stabbed at me.
All of the bride's maids were all down stairs minus Elizabeth, who was allowed to stay with me. Matthew was on the other side of the floor picking out tuxedos to wear with his groom's men, one of them insisted by my mother, was Logan. She was running around the store pulling dress after dress out for me to try on. I had snuck out of her grip and migrated to a corner with my book alone, but now was trapped like a rat.
"No," I told her more aggressively. "-and Shane's mouth is something that I enjoyed, I wasn't forced to do it."
"Evelyn you need to pick a gown out. Each one I have chosen for you, you've objected to," she stomped her foot. I looked up and raised my eyebrow at her childish antics. My eyes rolled over to the book at hand.
"Hey! Give that back!" I yelled. She snatched the book out of my hand and threw it at Elizabeth who sat on the pink couch next to me. Elli smiled at me and tucked the book away in her purse.
"Not, until you pick one Evelyn," she said and thrusted a wedding dress in my direction. I was engulfed with a plastic case and almost tripped over. They shoved me into the room, with who I believed was Mary. She closed the door behind me as I disrobed and helped me put on the wedding gown. Mary smoothed out the fabric of the ball gown Cinderella dress.
"So what do you think?" Mary asked backing away from me a little.
"It's what my Mother wants." I responded somber.
"Well, you Mother has a good taste." She said smiling at me. I walked out and stood in a small podium in the middle of the room. My mother squeaked and ran over to hug me as I scrunched up my shoulders in defense.
"It's perfect we'll take it!" I died a little inside as my mother was about to scurry off with Mary, but an unexpected savior came to my rescue, "Mother."
My Mom glanced over at Elizabeth who was eyeing her intensely. "What is it Elli?"
"If I recall, this is Evelyn's wedding not yours. So, you can't just choose a dress to your liking and expect Evelyn to like it as well." She said getting up. Quickly she looked over at the dress and scowled. "It doesn't suit your figure at all. Take it off, you look like a giant cupcake."
Praise Jesus! I thought and stepped down from the podium and into the dressing room with Elli following after me. She stood behind me and helped me undress. We didn't say much to each other. I sat down on a small bench as she put the dress away and handed me a vintage looking one, that had a modern mermaid twist to it.
"Having fun," She half smiled.
"What do you think?" I glanced down at her left hand and caught a glimpse of her engagement ring. "Hey, how's John?"
