chapter 13

                   several months later

"I can't wait for the school dance," Tasha exclaimed as we headed to our last class. "Are you going?" she asked me.

 "No," I replied as we entered the class. She looked at me curiously and asked, "How come?"

"Well, my boyfriend is exploring God-knows-where, all the way across the country," I said as I sat down.

"I can see why, but at least come with me as a friend. Cain has a cold and can't make it. It beats staying at home," Tasha said. "Sure," I agreed as the teacher walked in.

After school, I walked home to get ready and found a box my sister had told me to wait to open until it was a dance or something. I opened it and saw a beautiful blue strapless dress with green flowers on the bottom and a pair of blue flats.

 "Wow," I said, putting it on with the flats. I did my makeup up lightly, not being much of a makeup girl. I went downstairs to see Tasha talking to my parents.

"Are you ready?" Tasha asked me, but she stopped when she saw my dress, as did my mom and dad. "You look beautiful, Alex," my mom said as she hugged me. "I'll drive you guys," my Dad said as he grabbed the car keys.

When we got to school, Tasha and I got out, and my dad said, "Have fun," before driving off. "Let's go," I said as we entered the gym, decorated like an enchanted garden. 

"Wow," I said as I looked around. "Let's dance," Tasha said as she pulled me to the dance floor. We danced for what felt like hours, and when the slow song came on, Tasha and I went to the refreshment table.

 I pulled out my creature pod and looked at the picture of me and Chris. "I know you wish he was here," Tasha told me.

"Oh, look, does the creature girl have no date?" Vilot said as she took my creature pod out of my hand. "Give it back," I said as I went to snatch it, but she moved out of the way quickly.

 "Give it back," I said with a stern face. "And why should I?" Violet said with an evil smirk on her face.

"Because it doesn't belong to you," a familiar voice said. I looked to see Chris in a suit, and I never thought I'd see the day he changed his adventure suit for a formal suit. I ran to him and said, "I missed you," as I kissed him on his lips. 

Chris and I walked over to Tasha and Vilot.

"I think that belongs to my girlfriend," Chris said as he took my creature pod away from Vilot, who still had a shocked expression. "I believe this belongs to you," he said as he handed me my creature pod.

"Shall we dance?" he said, holding my hand.

 "Yes, you may," I said as he escorted me to the dance floor. "I gotta ask you one question," I said as we danced.

"Yeah," he said.

"How did they get you into that suit?" I asked. He looked down and said, "Aviva promised we could go adventuring anywhere I choose."

"Well, I love you anyway," I said.

"Me too," he replied as we danced the rest of the night.
