"buck, do you have to go?" i buried my face into the soldier's neck, hugging him one last time before he left.

"i'm sorry, i have to. i promise, when i get back, i'll take you for a nice dinner, we can go dancing, maybe see a show?" he kissed the top of my head after finishing, holding me tight to his chest. "i promise to write to you whenever i get the chance."

"you better, or we'll have a serious problem." i chuckled, looking up at him, the rain clouding my vision ever so slightly. "you better write to steve, too, okay?"

"i know, y/n, i know. it won't be much longer until i'm home, doll, i hope you don't forget about me." james started to tear up.

"i could never, james." i let a few tears slip. "promise me, buck. promise me you'll come back in one piece, please. i could never handle losing you." i sobbed, looking up to see that he was crying as well.

"i can't promise, but i'll try, okay? i'll try for you." bucky dipped his head down to kiss me sweetly. the kiss was gentle, i could taste our tears mixed with the rain, making it even more emotional for the two of us.

we stayed like that for a short while, until i heard what i had been dreading. "barnes!" the officer called out, "get on the train! we're leaving!"

"i love you, doll! i'll see you soon!" he yelled as he was pulled away by the officer.

"i love you, james!" i yelled back, crying even harder, if possible.
