(Larrence)

I was running through a forest, the wind nipping at my face, while something chased after me. As I ran, various branches lashed at my body like whips. When I felt that my pursuer was no longer behind me I slowed to a stop. I relaxed my shoulders in an attempt to regain my breath until I sensed something coming in fast. I would have shifted into my ice phoenix but I didn't get the chance. My breath came in short and ragged pants as my lungs cried out for air. I could feel my face pale and become cold as the blood rushed out of my head when a loud howl tore the silent, cold night, sending shivers down my spine. It didn't sound far and was closing in fast. I stopped and leaned against the nearest tree while my chest heaved, my lungs trying to catch my breath. I started running again, letting my legs and instinct take control of my body. My legs began to feel weak and fatigue started to settle in. Soon after, my legs became numb and buckled under my weight. I couldn't feel my legs, so I had to army crawl towards a hole at the bottom of a nearby tree. As soon as I was about to reach the small space, I was pushed and rolled onto my back by a large paw. I started to struggle but a large navy blue wolf with luminous golden eyes trapped me underneath him. He seemed to purr a wolfish purr, but then leaned in and growled, "Mine."

I woke up in a flash. My breathing was uneven as I took greedy gulps of air as if I just ran a marathon. My older brother Alec rushed to my side, his face full of worry. His black shaggy hair was messy as if he himself had only just rolled out of bed but his face looked as if he had been awake for several hours. His metallic orange eyes scanned for any signs of injury..

"Larrence, are you okay?" My brother rubbed my back as he spoke. The familiar contact calmed me a bit.

"My..." Alec looked at me confused.

"Your?" He tilted his head and his eyes suddenly looked smaller.

"My... mate..." There was silence as I hung my head down. The quiet was unnerving. The only sounds were the smooth breeze of the air conditioning and the soft ticks of the clock for every second. Nervously, I stared at my hands and waited for a response.

When I couldn't take it anymore I looked up to see my brother with the widest grin ever. He looked like the Cheshire cat from Alice in Wonderland.

"What is he like?!" My brother blurted out and leaned in close.

I blinked then released the breath I hadn't realized I had been holding. Normally a Phoenix would dream of his or her mate in were, or creature, form after turning seventeen. Often times the youngest of the pair (usually the girl though gay couples are not considered strange or extreme in the supernatural world), had to turn seventeen before they would both have the dream of their other half in 'were' form. If the mate of a Phoenix isn't a Phoenix then only the Phoenix would know. If the Phoenix's mate happened to be a human then the Phoenix would dream about his or her human mate's town. It's weird if you ask me.

Thinking back to the wolf in my dream I replied, "He was navy blue with striking gold eyes."

"WHAT?! A navy blue Phoenix doesn't exist." Alec blinked and scratched his temple.

"He wasn't a Phoenix." My voice was no louder than a whisper. As I finish my sentence my dad and mom stormed through the door, both panting, having probably just flown back home. Since we lived in the forest it was a long way away from anything though the privacy was usually worth it.
