Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Breathe in.
Picking up my feet was getting harder and harder with every step. I refused to look down at the time knowing it would only go by slower and instead I tried focusing on the now forming shin splints. Note to self: ice when you get home.
The thirty minute mark reached and I quickly hit the stop button. That was good enough for today. Shaking off the sweat from my forehead I stepped down and nearly dropped to the floor. It had been a whole year since I started jogging again and my legs felt like they were still moving.
I grabbed my phone from the machine and quickly made my way out to the car not wanting to stop by any mirrors and see the mess that I know I looked like.
"Have a good night, Jaelynn." The guy at the front desk smiled and waved to me, actually looking up from his phone as I passed by him. I smiled tightly and mumbled a "you too," before putting my head back down, pretending I had something more interesting to look at one my phone.
Finally reaching my car, I slouched down feeling slightly more comfortable in my own company. My phone vibrated and I dismissed the message seeing it was from my mom. Probably asking me where I am. I threw the car in reverse and made my way home. Pulling up I could see my dad's truck in the driveway but not my mom's car. Confused, I reached for my phone and checked her message.
Dad and I have gone out for dinner and drinks. Want to join us?
I sighed and got out of the car making my way up to the house. As soon as I entered the house, my eager dog jumped up on me nearly knocking me over.
"Hi my good boy, I missed you so much," I cooed. I threw my things on the counter and rushed upstairs to start the shower. My phone vibrated again right as I was about to get in and I groaned walking over to it.
Hello?
I shook my head and started typing back.
Nah, I'm just going to stay here. I placed to phone on the sink and hopped in, thankful to finally be able to wipe off this grossness. She didn't text back probably tired with always asking and me never wanting to go out with them. It's not that I didn't want to every once in a while but that would mean getting ready again, sitting through a dinner hoping my dad doesn't have an angry tantrum because his food didn't come out in seven seconds after ordering it and then having to wash my face again for the third time that day. Yeah, no thanks.
Once I got out I reached for my phone again and saw that I had a notification, for Tinder. I laughed and called Tore. She picked up on the first ring.
"Thank you for calling best friend services how may I help you?" I smiled at her tone. Always more open, always more confident.
"Yes, next time you set up a booty call profile for me and swipe, can you at least tell me?"
I could feel her roll her eyes. "Jay, come on, you need a man's in you life and Tinder is a very viable app," she mused.
"Yeah for the horny and hopeless. Besides, I don't need a man. I'm fine where I am at right now." Trying to bargain with her was absolutely hopeless I knew that.
"Actually some guys on there are looking for more than a quick hookup." She said it so weakly even God knew she was lying. She sighed on the other side of the phone. "I just want you to be happy and you're smoking hot and every guy knows it, you just tend to have, how do I say this lightly, one of those faces."
"A resting bitch face?" I smirked. It wasn't like I was trying to, it was just my natural face.
"So many guys ask about you at school and a few brave souls make it into your dms and you never answer! Even Brandon, the hottest boy in our grade tried to and you shot him down. Are you insane?"
