Flight From Hell

Michael was packing for a quick trip. He had to go to in Las Vegas to meet with a law firm to look over some contracts for an upcoming purchase of more music to add to his extensive investment in music catalogues. The meeting was the next evening but liking Vegas he decided to fly in a day early and relax. After the meeting he would stay the weekend and then make the quick trip home. He hated flying so if he had to fly he might as well get some down time to recover from the anxiety flying always caused him. His assistant James had booked the private charter and he needed to be at LAX in 4 hours for the 3pm flight. He threw in some jeans, a sweatshirt, flannel shirt, dress pants, dress shirt, tie, pajamas, t shirts, underwear and his shave kit. He jumped in the shower and changed into his favorite jeans and sweatshirt. If he had to fly he was going to be comfortable doing so. His cell phone suddenly rang. Looking down at the caller ID he saw it was his PA James.

"What do you mean the meeting has been switched from Vegas to Denver?"

"I'm sorry Mr. Jackson but the attorneys are stuck in meetings in Denver and cant make it to Vegas by tomorrow evening so they said the only way they could make this work is for you to meet them in Denver tomorrow at 1pm. There's another problem I have to tell you about. The Charter jet cant take you to Denver and they don't have any other planes available at such short notice so you are going to have to fly commercial. I've got you booked on a flight that leaves at 1 pm this afternoon. It's first class and you will be in Denver by 6 pm to relax in the hotel before the meeting tomorrow. I'm sorry but there's nothing else I can do."

"Fuckin cancel the appointment and tell them to come to LA. I'm not going to Denver James. You need to fix this."

"Michael I cant switch this. You will lose the deal if its not signed by tomorrow at 11:59pm. You've already invested too much money on this purchase to lose it. This will increase your Sony catalog assets by another $500 thousand. I'm sorry, but you have to do this. Michael the car will be there to pick you up in 30 minutes."

"You've given me no choice then. You friggin owe me on this one. I hate flying and now I have to fly commercial. At least change the reservation to one of my alias' I don't want to have anyone fawning over me when they see my name."

At the last minute he grabbed his anti anxiety medication. He was certainly going to need this to get through today. He grabbed a jacket at the last minute figuring he might need it as nights in Denver still would be cold. It certainly wouldn't be Vegas. He also threw an extra sweater in his suitcase. He decided to wear boots instead of his usual penny loafers. He went downstairs and said goodbye to the children. He always hated leaving them but this time it wouldn't be for long. Prince was 4 and Paris was 3 so luckily they didn't understand. Sure they missed their father but he missed them more. They had become his life. Everything he did was for them, for their future. Times like these were the sacrifices he made for them.

He arrived at the airport and checked in for his flight. It was then he noticed that he had to make a connection in Salt Lake City.

"Are you kidding me? It's not even a direct flight."

He decided to carry on his luggage rather than risk losing his belongings. He went to the bar hoping a drink would ease his nerves. You would think after 30 years of flying around the world he would be use to it by now. He heard the boarding announcements and quickly downed his gin and tonic and grabbed a handful of peanuts on his way out of the executive lounge. He pulled his hoodie up and donned his sunglasses in hopes of concealing his identity somewhat. He boarded with the other first class passengers and settled into his seat. To top it all off it was one of those shitty CRJ900 planes that seats only 50 people and the term "first class"was a joke. At least he had the single first class seat on the left side and wasn't forced to sit with someone who he could care less about conversing with. He leaned into the window and closed his eyes and tried to relax. He eventually fell asleep and was woken 90 minutes later as they were preparing for landing into Salt Lake City. He sat up and watched the view out of his window. There was still snow on the mountains. "Damn it looked cold" he thought to himself. He deboarded the plane and made his way to the executive lounge again. He quickly ordered something to eat and another drink. He ate quickly'grabbed his bag and made it to the gate as they were calling final boarding. He once again threw his bag in the overhead and took his seat. It was just like the other shitty plane.

"Amanda Harris if you are in the boarding area this is the last call for boarding for flight 109 to Denver."

Amanda ran through the terminal and made it to the gate just in time as they were calling her name for final boarding. She was on her way to Denver for a meeting with the chief of the ER for one of their sister hospital's. She was a critical care nurse and had recently taken a position as a manager with their corporation to head up training at their 5 facilities.

Michael looked up as the pretty blonde was just boarding the plane and was the reason for their delayed departure. He was beyond irritated with how this day was turning out. The flight attendant came by and took drink orders. He decided one more drink wouldnt kill him. He'd have one hell of a buzz by the time he landed but knew he would only be going to the hotel for the night and ordering room service. She came back with his drink and he reached into his pocket took out his medication and popped two xanax. Pulling his hoodie up he leaned into the window and took another nap. The mixing of alcohol and medication kicked in and he was completely knocked out.

Amanda boarded and threw her backpack in the overhead and quickly took her seat avoiding the irritated stares she received from the other passengers. It wasn't like it was her fault her flight was late coming in. At least she had an aisle seat for what it was worth. There still was no leg room. Luckily, the flight wasn't very full so maybe she could move to a row where she would be alone.

The flight took off and 30 minutes into the flight they started serving drinks and snacks. Amanda grabbed her backpack and moved up towards the front to an empty row to get more room. She sat down and started reading and got a sprite and peanuts. All of a sudden she saw one of the flight attendants go running to the phone and then there was an announcement.

"Ladies and gentleman we are sorry to announce that we need to turn back and return to Salt lake city. Please return your trays to their upright position and fasten your seatbelts."

Suddenly, the plane took a sharp turn and the ride became quite turbulent. Amanda threw her bag under the seat next to her and looked around to see if she could get a grasp on what was happening. The plane then began to shake violently and dropped suddenly in altitude. The beverage cart came flying down the aisle and slammed into Amanda's shoulder on the way by. She grimaced in pain but knew there were more important things to worry about. They were going to crash and she knew it. She could sense it in the panic of the crew. She braced herself by putting her hands behind her head and pulled her head down to her lap.

Up in first class the passengers were being told to prepare for an emergency landing. The flight attendant tried to wake Michael but he had passed out from his cocktail mixing. She reached down and pulled his seatbelt tighter and hoped the best for him and moved to the other passengers. The cabin was filled with screaming and panic. As the plane crashed you could hear the snapping of tree limbs as they crash landed into the forest. The sounds of scraping metal and screams were soon filled with an eerie silence.
