OMNISCENT
Zaila
Zaila sat on the floor of her two-bedroom apartment in absolute silence. With her pale knees to her chest, she held the picture tightly in her now red hands. Her eyes were swollen shut, the aftermath of countless hours spent crying. It was permanently etched into her memory. Six years seemed like six seconds. She was wounded. Just like him.
She flipped the picture over seeing his sloppy handwriting scribbled on the back.
Z,
See you when I get home.
Love,
Nate
That was a lie.
Knocks on her door snapped her out of her dismayed stupor. "Mama? You okay?", inquired her 6-year-old son Nate Jr.
"Yes, mommy's fine Nate. "
That was a lie too.
