The Street

As I walk out of the well heated store, the cold November air bites at my nose. I hate the cold, it's just so annoying. I continue down the sidewalk listening to the cars whizzing by. The streets were surprisingly, or maybe not so surprisingly, empty. Perhaps due the cold weather.

I like to stare at my feet as I'm walking. It makes time seemingly go faster. Suddenly I feel something crash into me, causing me to loose my balance. My butt met the concrete and I look up to see a guy standing over me.

"Hey sorry about that, need a hand?" he says and reaches his hand out. I hesitatingly grab it, and he pulls me to my feet. "My name is Luke, it's nice to meet you".

"Thank you and my name is Riley", I respond. I practically couldn't get the words out, as they were so shaky. He just stood there and smiled. I feel like an idiot, how could I embarrass myself like that? I gave him a smile back. However, I probably looked like a dork because the smile was so nervous. I was so busy thinking about my stupidity that I didn't even notice he was writing something down. He grabbed my hand and put a piece of paper in it.

"Talk soon," Luke says as he walks away.

I shook the thoughts out of my head and opened the piece of paper. Inside it was a phone number. I smile and put it in my pocket. What if it's fake? No, he was too nice to give me a fake phone number. I guess I'll find out soon enough. With that, I hurried the rest of the way home.
