It's the last week of August, which is-- in my mind-- a perfect time to act. From here on out I will defend myself from anybody who bullies me. I will finally be someone who doesn't cower away from things. Someone who is maybe not loved by all, but loved nonetheless. For that very reason, a smile has been plastered on my face since I woke up. Although, I do have other reasons to be so complacent.
Atticus caught the flu after frenching the red head in my literature class, meaning he will be gone for quite a while. God knows it was meant to happen sooner or later. What makes it even better, almost everybody in school knows.
It's not very hard to catch onto gossip. As long as someone's blabbing, nothing is kept a secret. I know that better than anyone else.
Aside from that, my uncle is arriving from his business trip in Hawaii today. He hinted that he would be bringing home presents, so there's that.
Everything has been lining up recently.
Maybe things will get better...
I made my way through the double doors of the cafeteria and sped towards a lunch line. The amount of students who go here is almost astounding, so there is more than one lunch line to get food from.
"What's she so happy about?" A boy spoke.
"I don't know, and I don't care." A girl said.
"Prolly' got laid."
"HA! That's a laugh."
There was a pause.
"Do you think she's high? I heard there have been people slipping around brownies laced with weed... Do you think she ate one?" It was the voice of the girl.
"Nah, I don't think so. Her eyes aren't red, and she doesn't smell."
"Weed brownies don't make you smell bad, idiot!"
"Oh. Hey! I'm not an--"
I glanced behind me to see two people bickering. Instantly, I recognized who they were. It was a boy known around here as Scout, and a girl whose name I think is Perry. They've been dating each other since freshmen year, which is quite an accomplishment for a pair that's still so young age wise.
They looked up for a second and caught me staring. Their faces pinched up in annoyance. Scout placed his arm over Perry and smirked. Meanwhile, Perry leaned into his hold and smiled. She gave me a look I couldn't quite describe. They were trying to prove something, but I only had a small clue of what it could be.
"Why are you staring at us?" Perry asked. I stayed silent, my smile completely gone. She wrapped an arm around Scout in a possesive manner. "Get your eyes off my man."
"Wha--? I--" She laughed at my pitiful attempt to speak. "I was just--"
"Oh wait! I get it!" She flicked her tounge and half smiled. "You're so desperate you thought you could seduce someone who's already taken. Give 'em a lil' look and they'll go fallin' at your feet. Look somewhere else cross-eyes." I pressed my lips together. "Wow, you gonna cry? What are you, five?"
