To Petunia Dursley of Number 4 Privet DriveDear Petunia Dursley
I bring the sad news that a powerful dark wizard has killed your sister, Lily, and her husband, James. We fear for Harry’s safety, and with you as the only living relatives hope that you will take him in as your own.
Harry must live with you until the age of 17, this reason is because his home has the same protection that his mother used to protect him from death.
When little Harry is of age I ask that you tell him of his parents and their deaths. I also request that you explain to him that he is a wizard and has powers beyond belief.
When Harry has turned 11 year of age he will be attending Hogwarts, school of witchcraft and wizardry.
I hope that with your protection Harry will live a safe and enjoyable life.
My apologies
~Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore
