I slept fitfully that night, but by the time the soft mornings rays hit the window, I had a plan formed and even though I wasn't sure if it would work, I had to try. The Angelus bell rang to announce the first Mass of the day in the town and the end of the night watchman's duty, which meant it was around 4 am. I forced myself to sleep and get my energy for at least a few hours, until the guards brought whatever breakfast prisoners got here. After I got whatever sleep I got, I walked up to the window and looked down, the light blinding me temporarily. Men and women were hurrying from here to there, all while evil lords like what's-his-face is probably sleeping like a log. I wish there was some justice, or a way for me to administer it. For me, atleast,if not everyone else. The door knob turned and I quickly adjusted my scorned face. Time to put my plan in action.
The previous guard, the one who "escorted" me here, came in with black rye bread ( food for peasants and- prisoners too, I guess). The guards regularly exchanged the guard post outside my cell, so this one was of the ones which brought me here. Good, we were all familiar then. He placed it on my bed and turned to go when I yelled,
"No, wait!"
He turned back to me, surprised. I gulped down, looking distressed," Sir, I need to go the bathroom, urgently"
" OK, be quick about it though, right?", he warned and I frantically nodded. He flicked a finger towards the door, gesturing me to follow him. I followed him like a puppy on his trail, innocent and dependent on him, only as part of the act of course. We were out of the cell and I was already happy, the other guard outside narrowed his eyes at the sight of me and looked questioningly at the guard that brought me out. " Needs to use the bathroom", he explained. The other guard relaxed and nodded," be quick", he directed to me. I nodded back, I got it the first time, idiot. The guard led me down the long, semi-lit corridor and it was a while before me stopped in front of the "bathroom". I tried my best to memorize every nook and corner of this place, because it will come in handy when I escape. I went into the small space with a hole i.e "bathroom" and took deep breaths, because the lord knew I was going to need it for I was going to do next. After a mere of 30 seconds or so, I came out screaming. The guard whipped around to me, his hand tightening on his spear," What!?", he demanded, looking around for possible signs of dangers.
I don't like to blow my own trumpet but I could do a good job in theatre. I played the part of a damsel in distress perfectly. I looked distressed, horrified, frightened and a damn utter mess. I had even ruffled my hair a bit to look the part. I mean, I know it was over the top but I even managed to push out a tear or two out of my eyes, with great difficulty of course, no less. I gave out a whimper and his eyebrows furrowed even more, the line on his forehead tenser.
" Out with it, girl!", he barked," what is it!?"
" Oh sir", I cried, pumping my chest to give the effect of laboured, panicked breaths," I don't even to know how to explain it to you, but- oh my dear lord!"
" Don't waste my time, girlie!", he exclaimed," Or else I'll be dragging you back to your cell now"
" The blood, oh blimey!", I screamed, but on a consciously low decibel so that the other idiot doesn't come here running. The guard's eyes widened," Blood?", he looked at me from top to bottom with wild, searching eyes, looking for the signs of injury.
I had pinched my cheeks and bent down on my head for long enough for blood to rush to my face and give me a flushed appearance, and the natural nervousness and excitement of my little stunt here added the last touch. My face was crimson," Uh- not here", I whispered shyly, looking away. One of his eyebrows shot up in confusion,
