I was walking down the street in one of my nicer outfits. It was a day off for me and the boys. They'd all pooled their money and gone to Coney Island for the day. To mine and everyone's dismay, I stayed behind because of a terrible headache.
"Go breathe in this fabulous New York air, kid." Jack said. "It really helps when ya not feelin' well." I walked past different businesses and stores. A group of boys who seemed my age watched me as I passed. I heard one of them whistle and them murmuring. I rolled my eyes and kept walking. Then, I felt an unwelcome gesture to my behind. I whirled around and saw a boy standing behind me. I angrily pursed my lips and smacked him across the face.
"Asshole." I told him. His friends laughed as he trudged back. I started to walk again when I felt a tug on my dress. I looked back and saw a different boy toying with the back of my dress. I swatted his hand away and felt the back of my dress.

The buttons were undone and the thin ribbon around my waist was undone. I felt scared and angry. I let out a yell and punched him in the stomach. He doubled over and his friends came to his side. I bolted and started to panic, tears streaming down my face. "The boys are too far away and Katherine's with them." I thought. "Spot." I remembered.

The tears kept falling as I ran to Brooklyn.

I made it to Spot's hangout. Some boys that I knew from Brooklyn were there, but I used our signal, anyway. In a few minutes, Spot was there.

"What's the matter?" he asked, putting his hands on my shoulders. I sniffed and wiped my eyes.

~Spot's POV~

Kicks told me about some boys while she was out walking. They were all being rude in one way or another. One whistled at her. One of them patted her behind, and another tried to undo her dress. I gave her a secure hug.

"Why do people do this?" she asked.

"Because people are idiots." I replied. I let go and looked at her. "Don't worry." I said. "They ain't gettin' away with this." I let out a whistle to call my friends. Soon, they were all there. "Listen up!" I shouted. "We got some work to do in Manhattan! Are we gonna let this kid be disrespected?"

"NO!"

"Are we gonna stand by and let our friend be hurt?"

"NO!"

"We're gonna give them a soaking they'll never forget!" I shouted. "LET'S GO!" all the boys cheered.

~Kick's POV~

I watched in awe as Spot conducted these boys to fight for me. He put his arm over my shoulders and we started walking to Manhattan. I looked up at Spot who ruffled my hair. "We ain't gonna stand by while you get hurt, understand?" he said. I nodded. We started marching across the bridge, on our way to victory.

We quickly found the group of boys, who were in the same spot from when I left them. I walked up to the boy who started undoing my dress. He was terrified, looking at all of the tough boys behind me. He looked down at me and his face went white.

"The poor guy's head is spinning!" I thought. I grabbed the front of his shirt and punched him in the nose. The Brooklyn boys cheered and started fighting. We quickly won and the jerks retreated. I hugged Spot, who was kinda bruised and had a little scratch. "Sorry you got hurt." I apologized.

"If it was for your sake, I don't mind." he said, grinning. I gave him a second hug. When I let go, I noticed the sun setting.

"I should probably head home." I said.

"Me and the boys will walk you home." he offered. "It's safer to travel in a pack than as a lone wolf."

Once we got to the Lodging House, I gave Spot one last hug. I looked to all of the other boys and smiled.

"Thanks, boys!" I called. "Good night!"

"G'night, kid!"

"Sweet dreams, newsie!"

"Sleep well!"

"See ya around, kiddo!"

I walked up to my room and immediately fell asleep, happy knowing that I was protected.

(A/N: this chapter was a bit crappy, but I don't have a lot of time on my hands lately, so publishing might be a little slow. Thanks for your patience!)
