The camera flashed on. The word REC and a flashing red dot appeared on the lens. It pointed at young Jaden Shetner. "Where are we going sweetie?" Jaden's mother asked. "The beach, the beach!" Jaden exclaimed excitedly back.
"That's right! But what are we gonna do when we get there?!
"Build sand castles and swim!"
Jaden's dad, Jase, chuckled. ""Sweetie, maybe we should leave the camera off until we get to the beach. We'll save power."
"Alright."
*At the beach*
"Wow, Jaden! That's some sand castle you built!" Jaden's mother exclaimed.
"Thank you mommy!" Little Jaden said while turning his head to his mother.
"Awe. Sweetie, I'm sorry but the cameras' battery is low. We have to turn it off." Jaden's father
Jaden's mother sighed. "Alright. Turn it off. Jaden wave goodbye to the camera."
Jaden waved to the camera.
That was the last thing Jaden, now age nine, remembered before the seemingly slow motion scene of his life ended and his father swerved and crashed the nice, new 2007 Chrysler 300 into a tree. Jaden was somehow only slightly hurt. With only a few bruises, Jaden jumped out of the car and did the first thing that came to mind after the memory played back through his brain: He ran to a pay-phone, deposited a quarter and dialed 911.
"Hello?" Answered a woman on the other side.
"P-p-please h-help me. M-m-m my f-father crashed i-in-into a tree." Jaden stuttered frightfully into the phone.
"Calm down sweetie," the woman replied. "can you tell me where you are?"
"I don't know."
"That's ok honey, don't worry, help is on the way." The woman replied in a soft, reassuring tone.
Jaden hung up the phone and sat on the grass that was rustling in the breeze offside the road. Although it was soft, it was lusterless. But Jaden just sat there shivering, worried about his parents and regretfull that he couldn't do anything to help. He thought about everything that lead up to this mess. As he remembered it, his mother started screaming in the living room while they were watching TV. It was a normal, breezy Agust day. They were watching Jaden's most favourite of all shows: Spongebob square pants. His mother was sitting on the couch while he was sitting on the soft carpet floor, staring up contently at the screen. Jaden's mother was all cozyed up on the couch, giving her big, round belly a pat every few minutes. Jaden thought it was because his mother ate alot, and he was probably right. Then she started crying out in pain.
His father had definitely heard from the kitchen because he came bursting into the room, part asking and part yelling what was wrong. His mother said something to his father that Jaden could not make sense of. But before he knew it, his father had both his mother and himself in the car and were speeding along and in and throughout roads. At some point he had lost control and swerved into a tree and completely totalled the car as Jaden could see right before his tear-stained eyes.
It seemed like hours before the police, fire department a three ambulances showed up. One of the police men took Jaden into a car, while his mother and father were rushed off into different ambulances.
They arrived at the hospital where Jaden was told to sit and wait. He could hear his mother's screams. He tembled.
After a few minutes, the screaming was gone, But then crying started up. But, this was not the crying of his mother nor his father. This was a different kind of crying that did not belong to a young boy, girl or any adult. Soon after the crying stopped, a doctor, man, came out of the room close to Jaden and sat down beside him. He turned to Jaden.
"What is your name." The doctor asked.
"Jaden." Jaden said with a flat face.
"Well, Jaden. Guess what? It seems to be that you have a new baby sister."
