The Run Away

     It was one of those days. The morning was cold and the sun wasn't up yet. You lived on the streets. Your mother was addicted to some sort of drug. Which is why you ran away. It's almost as if she was a whole entire different person.
     You could barely get by while living on the streets and winter was coming so you needed to find some sort of shelter.
     You kept walking through the market area, hugging yourself for warmth.
     There was a parade in town at the time. They were passing through one of the main streets in town. There were children all around and a few older people, probably the children's parents. You decided to watch for a bit. It might make you feel better, disregarding your situation.
     The parades cat-like mascot stopped in front of you, noticing how you weren't enjoying yourself. You probably looked sullen, maybe even depressed.
     "Is something wrong, little miss?" The mascot spoke in his almost chivalrous tone.
     "Well, I need somewhere to stay for a bit. You see, my mother has become unbearable to live with. She's addicted to this drug and it's practically changed her entirely. I ran away and I don't have much money for food and such. I don't want to steal either just to get by. Plus, winters coming so I need shelter."
     The mascot stayed silent for a bit.
"You said your mother has changed due to a drug?"
     "Yes. That's correct."
     "In what way did she change?"
     You stayed silent for a bit. It's going to sound crazy to whoever this person is. What if they don't believe you? It is bizarre and probably shouldn't be humanly possible.
     "Well, this might sound crazy but she changed physically. It's almost as if she became a monster. She acts insane and hurts people. Plus she was constantly dating, her dates never actually return."
     The mascot hugged you. You could hear his sniffling that resonated from inside his costume.
     "How about stay with us? You could join us and help out in the parades and shows."
     Well. It would keep you safe throughout the winter months. Hopefully, they'll provide food and clothing.
     "I'd love to. Thanks for offering. Though, is it okay if I just stick with you for now? You are the only person I know so far so I'd feel better staying near you."
     The mascot nodded and thus your adventure into the unknown world of circus began.
