Sorry this'll be a little shorter than the previous chapters! Just a quick bridge between events. Contains a little bit of gore.
-Katt's Pov-
I stretched my arms and yawned, the sun shone harshly through my parted curtains.
Then I noticed the two police cars parked outside, along with a Chevy impala.
There were many voices coming from downstairs, some familiar and some not.
I grew concerned, questions seemed to pop every second as I headed down.
As soon as I rounded the corner I knew something was off. Dad, Sam, and Carla were all gather around a police officer, their expressions were stricken with grief.
Carla's eyes shot up to me and widened.
"Katt! My goodness, Katt..." Her mouth opened and closed, looking away she gripped her arms tightly.
Sam shook his head and wiped at his face, walking over he placed a firm hand on my shoulder before looking towards Dad.
My father looked the most devastated, the pain was clear in his eyes.
"Oh honey.." Pulling me into a tight hug, he wept, wetting my shoulder.
"D-Dad..what's happening..w-where's Mom?"
He choked slightly and grimaced.
"G-god...take a seat, sweetie." He wiped at his face and sat down slowly, gesturing at the chair beside him.
I followed reluctantly, sliding into my chair.
Dad took a breath but before he could begin, the sound of the morning news cut through the silence.
"This is WattNews coming to you live. My name is Dill Tersely and I will be reporting a recent tragedy that occurred the night of August 21st here in Ocean Hill City."
I whipped my head towards the tv, shaky breaths filled the room. I was sure that this so called tragedy would explain the cops and Mom's absence.
It was almost like I knew what they would say but I couldn't bring myself to accept it. To even consider the grim possibility.
"46 year old, Mary Cook, was found dead with lacerations on her neck and forearms. There were no signs of a break in or any disturbance other than the body. Her husband, Ryan Cook, called the police early this morning. The details are still being processed and there are no suspects or motives currently available for investigation."
My eyes widened and I gasped, shaking, I felt my heart shattered. No tears left my eyes but the shock ripple throughout my body. Dad squeezed me tight but it did nothing to block the words out.
"The mother of three was dearly loved around town and in their neighborhood. We give our thoughts and condolences to the family. The viewing will held open to the public on August 29. This is Dill Tersely, signing off."
The tv cut out and the room was in silence.
And that's when I glanced up at the calendar and remembered.
It was supposed to a happy day, my birthday.
