My eyes widened as I looked out the window. There, two wide and faded yellow eyes stared back.
"Who is that?" I asked, backing up.
Victor shrugged. "A person. Or thing."
"How are you so calm? There could be like, a freaking monster or killer.... or demon out there!"
Victor's eyes widened as I said demon, but he remained silent.
"It's not a demon. Or monster. Or killer. I can go out and investigate if you want." Alisa said.
"No!" Victor snapped.
Alisa's eyes widened. "Well, now I have to!"
I looked away from the window.
Victor huffed. "Don't."
Alisa rolled her eyes, and ran out the front door. Victor followed.
"No! Now I have to go outside...." I sighed.
"No, you don't," a voice said from behind me.
I turned. Instead of seeing out the window and the yellow eyes, I saw a small shadow with white eyes blocking it.
"Uhm?"
"What? Haven't you ever seen a demon before? You are friends with Victor, right?"
The white eyes brightened, and I could now see the girl. She sat in the windowsill, right in front of the window as if trying to block my view of the outside. She was probably around Victor's height, maybe a bit taller. She had long blonde hair, and she was wearing a white shirt with jeans.
She hopped down, standing in front of me. She grinned, razor-sharp teeth surprising me.
"Why are you talking to me?" I asked.
I didn't like her. Not at all.
"Oh, I almost forgot! I'm Veronica. You don't need to tell me your name," She said. "You're Luke."
I nodded slowly. "Yeah..."
"Luke!" I heard someone yell.
It sounded panicked.
Veronica scowled. "Aw, dang it. Okay. Let's speed things up."
"Who was that?" I asked.
I wasn't sure of the voice, though it sounded familiar.
"No one important. Now," she said quickly. "I want to make a deal."
I looked at her, eyes narrowing. "For what? My soul? No."
"No, you idiot! I don't need your stupid soul!" She snapped, but then sighed. "Okay. The deals conditions-"
"-I never agreed-"
"-are that you get to tell when your friends lie. Like all the secrets Victor has? I can make him tell you. My part is I get to stay with you."
I shook my head. "Nope."
She held out her hand. "Humans are so stubborn! Just, come on!"
I crossed my arms, shifting. "No. There has to be a catch. There's always a catch!"
Veronica's eyes were tinted red, her voice deep and eerie. "FINE!"
Her free hand yanked my arms free, grabbing my hand. She forces a hand shake.
"LUKE!" Victor yelled from outside.
Veronica smiled, her voice and eyes returning to normal. "Pleasure doing business with ya!"
