"Why are you ignoring me?" Jaein asked Venus, who stared straight ahead as they walked the night streets of Rockaway Park. The nearby waves were audible all the way from the quiet night street, and though the frequent crashes of wave upon shore usually calmed Jaein she was anything but at the moment.
She was jittery, looking everywhere and bouncing on her feet. She was surprised by how light she felt, seeing as she was attacked by a lion monster but wrote it off as another one of the many mysteries of magic Venus wouldn't inform her of.
"Because I'm not at liberty to answer the questions you're asking me," she said with a forced smile. She walked with her hands in her pockets, barely glancing over to Jaein. Venus was cold, but still attention grabbing. Like something you always see but can never truly touch no matter how much you reach for it.
"You plan to leave me in the dark after introducing me to a whole world living right under my nose?" Jaein didn't mean for it, but there was a slight edge underneath her words.
Venus noticed and noted it with an arch of her left eyebrow, before becoming stone faced again. "Those are actually my directions, word for word."
Jaein noticed the sarcastic sharpness laced in with Venus' words. Probably a retaliation to her stabbing sentence moments ago.
So Venus is kind of spiteful, that's interesting.
The pale girl knew that when it came to knowledge, when pitted against Venus her disadvantage was so obvious that she'd had to take several steps back to see it.
Venus knows of this whole new world, she was a part of it. A witch wrapped in a shield of beauty and mystery, she was like a spy in a way. Hiding underneath the unsuspecting noses of humans with such ease. The pale girl was sure the witch even knew the way to her home, following the same route that Jaein took like she lived there.
It was clear Jaein didn't know anything, the only way she could gain information at the moment was through Venus who's lips were sealed, so she decided she'd take what she could from the underlying tones of Venus' voice.
"What about if I get attacked again?" Jaein said, her worry snaking its way into Venus' ears and grabbing her attention in the form of a glance from her gray eyes.
Jaein had noticed the shift in her eye color a few blocks ago, for as long as she could remember the girls eyes were as dark as a bottomless pit. Now they were a heather gray, shrouded by an alluring intelligence.
Venus sighed and shoved her hands into the pockets of her black adidas tracks pants. Jaein watched her curiously, wondering what a witch carries around in their pockets. A nervous knot formed in her stomach as she began to guess.
