"Nice scrubs." I smirked, as Cynthia got ready to head to school. They were doing clinical rotations at the hospital, so she had to dress the part as a future nurse.
"They are very comfortable. Like we all like college, but I get to do more than sit in classes for 12 hours a day." She grinned. She walked over and sat on the end of my bed, and I sat forward and started to braid her hair.
"Elliot and I get to spend every hour of the day together, you know, since you fired me and I had to get another job." I spoke, and she laughed softly.
It's been several months since I last saw my father, and now in the middle of April, Elliot and I were doing our second semester of college and that was going to be over on the first of may.
"Do you like working at the bookstore with your boyfriend who only reads books when you force him to?" Cynthia asked, and I nodded slowly.
"I do. And he reads sometimes!" I laughed, as I tugged on her braid before tying it off.
"Who reads sometimes?" Elliot asked, as he came into the basement.
"You do!" Cynthia grinned, before she walked over and grabbed her bag and got ready to leave.
"Okay?" Elliot asked, as she waved at me and walked up the stairs.
"Ready for class?" I asked, and Elliot nodded slowly, before he drew me into his arms and held me close.
"I love you." He spoke, before kissing me softly.
"What did you do know?"
"Nothing, I just wanted to tell you that I love you, before we headed off to school and then the bookstore."

We had to sit through a long lecture on the use of different DNA, like hair and spit, and then we had to go to two more classes before we went to the book shop to start working.
Elliot and I changed in the restrooms before walking out and going to the counter. The book shop we work at is family own and run, and Elliot got the job because his old t-ball coach from when he was younger ran it and remembered him. And since I'm Elliot's fiance, they gave me a job when Elliot brought it up to them that I was in need of a job.
"So, cashier or cleaning shelves?" Elliot asked, as I tied my hair back.
"I don't care. Just give me a task to do." I smiled, and he nodded. He handed me a rag and some dusting stuff before sending out to clean all of the book shelves and organize the shelves.
I really got into it and zoned out, and until the voice of the person I hated most in the world started to ask me a question about a box set of some author's books.
"Serena?" I asked, as I stood and looked directly at her. She swallowed hard when she looked at me.
"Olivia?" She asked, and I swallowed hard. Even if we live in a huge city, I didn't see her anymore. When she was dating my father, I saw her a lot more than I thought.
"Uh, what are you doing here?" I asked, as if I completely forgot I was standing in a book store, and she was holding a book set.
"I'm looking for some new books. You work here?" She asked, and I nodded slowly, as I pointed at my name tag.
"Yeah, I do." I spoke, as I ran my hand through my hair, and she eyed the ring on my finger, one that has just became a part of me.
"Elliot proposed?" She asked, and I swallowed hard and nodded.
This is so weird. We weren't fighting and yelling at each other. I looked her over for a moment, before looking at the books.
"What were you wondering about this?" I asked.
"The price." She spoke, and I nodded as I walked over and looked at the other sets.
"Probably $25. Ask Elliot and he can give you a real answer." I spoke awkwardly, and she nodded.
"Okay, thanks." She spoke, before walking towards another aisle. I looked down at the books I had taken off the shelf, and tears welled in my eyes.
I have changed since we got back to Manhattan. Clearly being engaged was a huge change, but I have started to forgive people that I have hated. And for some reason, I found myself wanting to forgive Serena, but I didn't want to forgive my own father. I heard the front door open, and I quickly went running towards the front door.
"Serena!" I called, as I ran out after her. She stopped before she crossed the street, and looked at me.
"Yeah?" She asked, and I smoothed my hair as I spoke.
"Can we get coffee sometime? I want to talk. To get answers." I spoke, and her eyes went wide, but she nodded.
"Okay, yeah."
"Yeah?" I questioned, and she nodded.
"Yeah. Here, write your number on here." She spoke, as she pulled out the business card that we put in every bag we put a book in, and I quickly took a pen from my pocket and wrote my number on it. I handed it back to her, before turning and heading into the store.
"Liv?" Elliot asked, and I swallowed hard as I looked at him.
"I think I'm going crazy. I just gave Serena my number. I asked her to get coffee with me." I breathed, and he shrugged.
"Well, I knew you were crazy from the start." He smirked, as I walked to the counter.
"Did I make the wrong choice?" I asked, and he shook his head.
"No, I don't think so. You are fixing your relationships with those around you, and if you are ready to talk to your mother and discuss this all with her, than it's the right choice." He spoke, before he leaned over and kissed me gently. I nodded slowly as I took a shaky breath.
Before I get married to Elliot, before I bring children into this world with him, I want to be in the best place possible. Even if our wedding isn't going to be till next February, and kids will be in the distant future, I still want to be in a good place in my life. Where I don't get those long stretches of time where I'm so depressed, that I can't even climb out of bed. I want to be able to go to the police academy and do the discussions with the therapist, and not have them think I'll be a risk.
I want to be free from everything that has weighed me down over the years, so I can focus on being happy. Being with my soulmate.
