Chapter One
Emma’s POV:
“We’re moving.”
I spat out the water I had been drinking. I couldn’t have heard my father right. “W-what?” I stuttered.
“Emma, I know it’s going to be hard for you to come to England with us, seeing as you are close with Erin and Hannah, and you have a boyfriend…”
“Dad, you know Luke isn’t my boyfriend,” I cut in.
My mother patted my knee. “Honey, I know how hard this will be. But your father got a fantastic job offer and a promotion. Wouldn’t you love to live in a much bigger house than this?” She gestured to our small home. I loved the close comfort of it.
“It’s for the best,” My dad said, trying to hug me. “You have the end of the school year and half of the summer to say your goodbyes. It’s going to be hard for us, too.”
“I can’t leave here. I love Melbourne! I’m not leaving!” I started crying. Childish, I know, but being told you have to leave all of your closest friends and uproot the life you’ve had for 17 years isn’t easy. “I’m not leaving!” I repeated before jumping up and storming out the door.
“Sweetie, wait!” I heard my mother yell, but I didn’t stick around. I didn’t know where I was going, I just knew I had to leave these life-ruiners I call my parents.
I pulled out my phone to call my closest guy friend, Luke Brooks.
“Hello?” I heard Luke say.
I wasn’t able to say much so I just choked out, “The park.”
“I’ll be right there,” I heard him disconnect. He knew I was talking about the skate park, which is where I first met him. My older brother and his best friend, Beau, dragged me there one day. Luke, and his twin brother Jai, and I were inseparable ever since. Luke and I were closer, though. As I turned the corner to the skate park, I was suddenly attacked into a hug by someone.
“Oh my God, Emma, I was so worried about you! What’s wrong?” Luke asked. His light brown eyes shone with concern.
“I-I’m moving,” I said, starting to cry once more.
Luke’s POV:
She looked so beautiful. Even with her smudged, puffy eyes, her hair messed up, and her nose all red. I pulled her into a hug, not able to comprehend what she just said. “You’re…. moving?”
She just nodded, hugging me tighter. I couldn’t believe this. Ever since I first laid my eyes on her when we were ten, I knew this was the girl I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. And now, all my work in getting her to feel the same way was flying out the door. “You can’t,” I said, my voice cracking.
“But I am,” she whispered. My whole heart hurt, seeing her like this. She was so small, so fragile.
“How long do you have until you’re moving?” I asked, resting my head on top of hers.
She sniffled. “I think until the end of summer.” That was good. I had a couple of months to be with her, even if it was only as a close friend and nothing more.
“Well Emmy, I think we’re going to make those months the best of your life!” I declared, which made her laugh.
She hit my chest. “Ow! What the hell was that for?” I asked, pretending it hurt.
“Don’t call me Emmy.
This chapter is kind of short, mainly because it’s an intro to the plot and the main characters. Suggestions and feedback would be fantastic! ♥
