The next morning I awoke thinking of James. With his perfect groomed short light brown hair. His green eyes like a forest you can get helplessly lost into, and his perfect all American shiny, straight teeth smile. Oh that million dollar movie star smile. His tan skin that glistens in the afternoon sun after a full day's worth of surfing. Oh, how I missed the surf so much.
I push away my memories of our past Summers and school years in the back of my mind. Save them for a rainy day. I get ready wearing high waisted shorts and a thin, loose top tucked in with the fitted shorts. I was not a fan of dresses. Pants. Pants where my thing. High waisted, or rompers, or playsuits. With a fabric hairband to tie into my hair.
I put on a simple white button up collar romper. I wore white socks to help break in my new heels and a wide sun hat to help keep me cool.
" Mir-" A voice clears their throat. " Charlotte." Liesel calls to me through the bedroom door.
" Coming!" I call out as I widely open the bedroom door. " Ja?" I asked looking at her.
" Hurry. Nico said he will take us into town. Their you'll go into your job interview while we walk around the square." She informs me as we walk down the hall. Nico is already waiting for us at the bottom of the stairs.
" You're late. Come along." He states impatiently. We follow and head out the front door. All three of us hop into the car. Once out of the property and far down the rural road we turn the radio on at full volume sing-shouting the lyrics. Once into town we turn down the music, but only a bit. What do you expect teens to do?" Hallo. I'm M- Charlotte Zöller." I introduce myself to the café's manager.
"Hiemer." The man introduces as he shakes my hand. " Welcome. So, you want a job here?" He asks in an almost bored tone.
" Ja. I've worked in a family friends restaurant. I was a waitress, cleaned the dishes, closed, and opened." I explain to Hiemer. " I have also worked at a cinema when no extra help was needed at the restaurant."
After an hour I was accepted. I would be mainly closing as well as cleaning dishes.
" Come back in two days. I'll show you how to clean and close." Hiemer explains to me.
" Ja. Danke." I say standing up as I shook his hand again.I walk out of the café and find Nico and Liesel waiting for me on a bench talking to each other. I over heard them.
" Going to a lunch meeting, but hoping to get asked out on a date."
" Wasn't supposed to take her siblings out into the city."
They were making up stories of people going past them about their day. We did that all the time when we got bored. Everyone on both sides of my family did that. My mother's side we'd come up with the most funny, most ridiculous ones while my father's side made up more practical ones.
" Broke his tooth trying to fix his light, but decided it would be a good idea to place the ladder on the second to last step on the stairs against the railing. It broke. The ladder and he fell. Thus cutting his eye, breaking two teeth and bumping his head." I go off as my cousins an I start to laugh.
" You're very creative Charlotte." Nico says smiling as they both get up. " How did it go?"
" Surprisingly I got the job."
" Well, Hiemer really has been looking for someone to help and with you being so willing to literally work whenever, of course he'd accept immediately. His son was going to have to work even more, which means I'd get dragged in."
" That makes sense, but at least hearing German constantly and reading words all around will help me become much more fluent." I say smiling.
" Let's get home! Mom is making lunch an I am starving! Besides I promised Greta to teach her how to put curlers into her hair." Liesel says walking in front of us.
