It was early February, the day before Lunar New Year, the wind was icy cold and I was walking along the alley of Myeongdong after visiting my  university where I gathered my university records needed for applying a job. Seoul was having a cold and dim weather. The sun was hidden behind the clouds and the colour outside was really dull.  It was only noon but the mood felt like it was already night time. I was  wearing a red turtle neck and a brown trench coat, feeling thankful that I wore something thick so I wouldn't have to worry about getting sick.

The alley that was always busy with people and street shop stalls is oddly quiet which is unusual since it's the eve of Lunar New Year. I further walked to go to the bus stop to go home but even before I could reach my destination I heard footsteps following me. Weird. I still walked at my normal pace to avoid any troubles but this time I was more attentive to the sound behind me.

I was grabbed by a hand that strongly gripped my wrist. I was pushed back to a cement wall and my head felt the strong impact. I was dizzy but I managed to open my eyes. Right in front of me was a man in a black mask and and a black cap. He was still gripping hard on my wrist and pinning it to the wall. His other hand was going through my purse.

My instinct told me to kick him to the part where it would hurt the most. So I did. He released my hand and my purse fell to the ground. He also fell to the grand holding his...well.. part after I kicked him with much anger. I tried to grab my purse from the ground and kicked him again, now on the stomach because I thought it would be evil for me to hit his private part again. I ran fast as I could back to the alley and wished there were any by passers who could help me but there were none. My wrist was hurting even more as seconds tick by from the grip of the robber. I tried to grab my phone to call for help but even before I could reach for my phone, the robber gripped on my wrist again. The same wrist. I screamed for help as loud as I can while trying to release from his contact.

He was murmuring how I should pay for my bratty attitude while I was cursing at him and yelling loudly for help. My wrist was now probably badly bruised as I can feel it sting. It was probably also bleeding too. I kept on kicking him and he can't seem to take over me. Suddenly, he fell  down to the ground after being pushed by a man wearing all black. The unknown man was helping the robber to get up just to punch him again, which made the robber fell down. The man kept punching the hell out of the robber while I just kept staring at the mess in front of me, afraid and legs trembling.

"Please call the police," the unknown man quickly said, out of breath.

He stopped punching the man who now lays on the ground, weak. He was sitting next to the robber making sure the man doesn't run away. I pulled my phone from my purse, hands shaking. I called the police station and reported what happened and where we were. I turned my back from the robber and the unknown man that helped me. I can't look at the mess behind me. I don't think I'm on a good mentality to do so. I looked at my wrist that was bleeding and bruised from the gripping of the robber. I don't know what to do.

After 5 minutes the police arrived and took the robber. He asked me and the man that saved me some questions and asked me to report back to the police station tomorrow to file some charges, then he took off. I stared at the police car until it was out of my sight. The cold wind blew again which made me shuddered my shoulders.

"Um.... are you okay?"

I turned to the man beside me. I looked up to him and saw his soft face with a hint of worry waiting for my answer. He was wearing sunglasses... in this weather where the sun is covered with clouds. I couldn't seem to move my mouth.  When I failed to answer his question, his eyes went down to my wrists.

"Sorry, I shouldn't have asked. Of course you're not. I'll take you to the hospital. Please wait, I'll call a taxi."

I nodded.
