I had been spending a lot of time with Hazel and Sage. Weird isn't it? The three of us sat together at lunch and usually hung out after school. I liked it. I had friends. Friends who got me and understood what it felt like to feel so sad and alone.
"I have to tell you guys something." Sage said. "I broke up with Katie."
My mouth drops and Hazel states at him with disbelief.
"I'm sorry, you did what?" Hazel asks with a frown.
Sage rolls his eyes and slumps back in his chair. "Well, its all bullshit isn't it? We don't really love these people. Its all an act."
"Why did you do that?" I question.
"Because I don't want to be apart of something that took my best friends life." Sage spoke with pain in his voice. "I'm timeless."
"Keep your voice down." Hazel says. "This whole entire school is being watched because of what happened."
As Hazel and Sage argued like always I continued to read Carson's diary. I was reading more about the timeless and trying to understand how they all got taken away. The ones that Carson met were the ones who escaped. I wanted to be safe. And I guess to protect Hazel and now Sage. Then my mind crossed over to James. I never knew what happened to him.
"Have you two heard anything about James?"
They both shake there head.
"He's timeless now too." Sage adds.
"Would you stop throwing that word around!" Haze spits.
Sage smirked and moves closer to her. "News flash sweetheart. You are too."
I look up at Sage who was still staring at Hazel. She pushes her food away, grabbed her bag and left.
"Good one." I mumble.
"That's so weird. Two people can really fuck with the system."
I nod. "I guess they can."
"What happens to us?" He quizzes. "What happens when they find out that we cracked the system?"
I frown. "We didn't do anything, Sage."
"You find out that this whole entire thing is a lie and you're going to sit back and do nothing about it?"
He kept his glare on me and I look at the ground.
"She lost her life because of this. And I'm going to get justice with or without your help."
The bell rung and Sage grabbed his things, storming away. I roll my eyes as I made my way to my last class. It was a drag. My teacher went on and on. I thought the class would never end.

"How was your day?" Gray asks.
"Awesome."
He sighed and kept his attention on the road. We took the long way home as usual. We were about to pull into the driveway and I noticed a black car in the driveway.
"Who the fuck-"
"Maybe its family." Grayson says.
I look at him and he looked uneasy. We both get out and make our way inside. Gray shuts the door.
"Ethan? Come into the kitchen." My mom calls.
I do as I was told. Grayson followed behind me. My mom and dad were at the table. And they sat with a man in a suit.
"Ethan, this is detective Matt. He has some questions about-"
"Carson?" I butt in. "About her death?"
"No." The man answers. "About Hazel Sanders."
"Sit down." My mom gestures. "We'll leave you two to talk."
They all leave and we were alone. He rest his hands on the table as he stares at me.
"Did I break a law or something?"
He shook his head. "Just need you to answer some questions. It won't take too long."
I nod slowly with a small frown.
"What is your relationship with Hazel Sanders?"
"We're... Uh..."
I knew who this guy was. I had read about him in Carson's diary. Not Matt in particular. Carson wrote that the timeless people get taken away by people like this.
"She's my girlfriend." I answer. "Ever since I timed out on her."
"Would you like to explain to me your relationship with Carson Woodridge?"
My body tenses up. "She was a good friend of mine."
"And she took her own life, yes?"
"Yes, but-
"And you also tried to take your life?"
I look down at my fingers. "Yes."
He nods as he wrote in his book. "Was this because you loved Carson and not Hazel?"
"No. No I timed out on Hazel, so I love Hazel."
He shut his book. "That's all I needed to know, Mr Dolan."
I stared at him as he grabbed the rest of his things. "We'll keep in touch."
With that he left through the front door. I creep to the window and I wait for his car to go. Detective Matt begun to reverse out. And as soon as he left I stormed upstairs to my room.
"Ethan?" My dad yells.
I lock my door quickly and I pull out my phone.
"E, talk to us." I hear my mom. "What's wrong?"
I dial Hazel's number quickly, it begun to ring.
"Go away, I'm sick!" I yell.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes!"
I pace back and forth as I wait for an answer.
"You're on your phone 24\7, answer the damn phone."
"Hello?"
"They're coming for us." I say with fear in my voice. "They know about everything, Haze."
"They came to your house too?" She asks. "Sage called me before, they talked to him too."
My eyes widen. "We have to go, we're in danger."
"Meet me at the school in 20 minutes. Tell Sage."
Hazel hung up. I grabbed my bag and I started to throw in anything. It was time to go.
