"Bye Y/N! " I hear Jonah yell from downstairs.
Throwing our bedroom door open I clumsily race down the stairs, "Wait!"
My boyfriend pauses with his hand on the door knob and glances at me expectantly, clearly in a hurry. Could he really have forgotten?
I'm suddenly at a loss for words. My previous idea seems insignificant now that I'm facing him.
"Well?" Jonah prompts, turning to fully face me.
"I-um, well I was wondering if you'd be home in time for dinner," I find myself avoiding his eyes, as I nervously play with my fingers, "But I know how busy you are-" I have to stop when my voice begins to shake.
"Babe," Jonah gently caresses my cheek, causing me to look up at him. Noticing the tears in my eyes he frowns, "Are-"
He's cut off by his phone. Tearing himself away from me he answers it.
"Hello?...Yeah, yeah, I know what time it is....I'm on my way now....yeah, bye." Switching his phone off he sighs deeply.
"I have to go," He presses a hurried kiss to my cheek, "We'll talk about this tonight, at dinner. Seven o'clock sharp, I promise."
My face lights up with a hopeful smile, and Jonah mirrors my actions before slamming the door.
As soon as Jonah is out of sight I find myself frowning again, he wouldn't forget...would he?
"Another day alone," I sigh.
Jonah has been incredibly busy with the band, and I could never be more proud of him and the boys. However, lately it seems as if we have become more of roommates rather than an actual couple. But tonight I plan to fix things.
I have been planning this day for weeks, months even; its our two year anniversary.
Clambering to the spacious hall closet I pull a box from the bottom shelf. I knew he'd never see it on the lower shelves considering how much taller he is than me.
The side of the box says, "May 23" in bold letters; the day Jonah asked me to be his girlfriend.
The contents of the box include: candles, rose petals, fairy lights, the collage I made him of all our pictures together, and a few other gifts I had gotten for him.
I had it all planned out; what I'd wear, what I was making for dinner, the decorations- everything. It is going to be perfect.
I spent the rest of the day preparing for this evening. I can't wait to see his face when he see's how beautiful everything looks.
I set the dinning table, placing the candles in the center, and scattering the rose petals across the table and trailing them to the front door. I also hung the fairy lights around the collage and a sign that states "Happy Anniversary!" in a shiny red font.
At 6:30 I dim the lights and light the candles, and then proceeding to race up stairs to get ready.
Quickly slipping on the dress that I had purchased a few weeks ago, I touch up my make up before heading back downstairs.
Settling at my place at the table I impatiently wait for seven o'clock to roll around.
Slowly but surely it does. Then it's 7:30...7:45... I watch as the candles burn lower and lower by the minute; taunting me.
He couldn't have forgotten; he's just running behind. He has to be.
My phone dings around the time the clock strikes eight.
