Chapter 8

We waded out in the water after we hit a few waves, the sun was shining along the water. The beach was slowly starting to grow in numbers with guests and swimmers. This was nice and I hated to admit that Craig was right. We weren't here for Deran, or Smurf. This was for us. I looked over at him, his hair pushed back wet as droplets of water were slowly sliding down his face. "What?" He asked me with a short laugh.

"This is nice." I told him as he nodded, "See? Told you, fuck my family for the day." He laughed.

"Seriously? Did she fucking send you two this is pathetic." Derans voice filled my ears. "I'm actually doing great, and we slept well too, thanks for asking Deran that was so sweet of you." I said to him my voice dripping with sarcasm.

"Well she sent Baz yesterday." He remarked paddling up so he was on the other side of Craig.

"Nah man, Cat and I went out last night and decided to hit some waves this morning. What's up with you and Smurf isn't my problem." Craig told him as Deran nodded, "Until she makes it your problem."

"I'm gonna fill in for you, for the next job." I remarked interested in what he might say. "You are doing what? No, Craig are you fucking kidding me?" Deran snapped at him. "No, Cat you aren't doing shit jobs for Smurf, you could die." He argued with me.

"Well, what is the other option? Josh, he's a kid that's not happening." I told him. Deran rolled his eyes running his hand over his hair. "I'll think about it alright?" He told me.

"Fuck this crap right, now. Whose got this next wave?" I asked as Deran looked over, "This baby is mine. I'll see you two on the beach." He called out as he howled like a wolf before riding the wave. "Your family is so weird." I told him as I headed to get ready for the next wave.

I got to the beach as Deran was removing the top half of his wetsuit. "That was a killer wave it almost ate you!" He laughed at me. "It devoured Craig that idiots gotta swim back."

"Hey now!" I laughed, "You rode that wave, I still think you two should come with me and catch some wave in Byron Bay." I told him, "Those are some killer waves."

"Australia?" He laughed, "Have you been back recently?" He asked me, "Two years ago for about a month, I spent time with my little brother. That kids a genius." I told him.

"Must miss him." He commented his voice growing softer. "Of course, always will. Unlike Elliot, I think Oli is going to go places." I told him. "I miss those two." He told me.

"Miss what two?" Craig asked us as Deran was helping me take off the top part of my wetsuit. "My brothers." I told him.

"How are Eli and Oli?" Craig asked. "Well Oli is almost done year 12, I think it's University next. Last I saw him he was talking about becoming a Marine Biologist." I told them. "Look at him go." Deran laughed.
