•Chapter Three•
•Carmen•

The five of us sat in my father's office waiting for him and mom to grace us with their presence. Collin and Dannie were snuggled up on the couch acting like the love birds that they are. Chance leaned against the wall, far away from Collin and Dannie with a bored look. I was leaning on the armrest of the couch with Carmen sitting on my lap. Her legs wrapped around my waist and her arms tightly coiled around my neck. Her head rested on my shoulder, her soft breath fanning against my neck. I had my hands tightly warped around her thighs, supporting all her weight.

We'd only been waiting for ten minutes, but in that time Carmen had somehow fallen asleep. I knew she was exhausted, but I badly wanted to wake her up so I could set her back down and kiss her and other things. Sadly this wasn't the place or time for it. Shortly after mom and dad entered, taking their spot at the desk. Mom paused on her way to the desk and stopped in front of me.

"Oh, how adorable." Mom awed and cooed at Carmen and me. Chance snorted rather loudly. With the combination of noises Carmen slowly woke up. She blinked away the tiredness from her eyes and climbed off of me. I held on to her to waist, gently running my fingers up and down her side. She yawned and cuddled up into my side. Carmen is just so cute, she acts like a little kitten sometimes, I can't stand it, it's too cute. Mom studied Carmen for a minute before leaning in and whispering, "Why is she wearing your shirt?" She couldn't put two and two together?

"I ripped her shirt." I replied, whispering right back.

"Why would you do that?" Mom's eyes grew wide as she stared at me.

I heaved a sigh before shaking my head. She wants me to spell it out for her, doesn't she? "It was in my way." I deadpanned. Mom's face grew hot as she backed away from me and went over to my father's side. She really set herself up for that one.

"Boys, let's be friendly, everyone take a seat." My dad waved his hands at Chance and me to sit down.

Collin and Dannie moved over so that Chance could sit. There was barely any room for me. But that wasn't a problem seeing as Carmen fell asleep again, standing up. I swiftly picked her up bridal style and sat down with her on my lap. She moved over so that she could curl up into my chest. She let out a content sigh before falling back asleep. I swear, she's the cutest thing ever. I had feeling my mom agreed with me. Chance, however, rolled his eyes at us.

"We have an announcement," My dad started out. "Your mother and I have decided we, as a family, are going on a vacation this summer."

"What?" Chance spoke first.

"We never go on vacation." Collin brought up.

"Well, important things must be discussed in private. Think what you about this vacation, but its important that we keep it very quiet. We'll be renting a beach house. There will be plenty of time to relax and enjoy the summer, however, there will be a lot of work to be done. I need everyone on board." My father explained further.

"So it's a working vacation?" Chance deadpanned.

"I guess." My father agreed. "There will be plenty of time for you to goof off."

"Okay, we will all discuss more in depth once at the beach house, everyone but Carson and Carmen may leave." Mom dismissed them. I can't believe they called us together for that. Chance, Collin and Dannie left, leaving dad, mom, Carmen and I alone. "Why is she asleep, again?" Mom asked.

"She's tired." I shrugged.

"What for?" Mom kept prying.

This was a good enough time as any I suppose. I gently shook Carmen awake. She woke with half lidded eyes and stared up at me with exhaustion. I rested my hand on her abdomen and pressed a kiss to her temple. "I'm going to tell them, okay?" She gave me a sleepy nod before curling back up into my chest. I looked back at my parents, they stared back with confused looks. "She's pregnant." I simply said, cutting straight to the point.
