Jess's POV:

The first thing I notice when I wake up on Monday morning is the blaring of my alarm clock next to my head and the absence of the good morning text from Gus. I spent the day with Adelyn yesterday, and not once did I hear anything from Gus which was out of the ordinary. I feel like he's purposely ignoring me, and it's starting to get irritating.

I get dressed in a black and white three quarter sleeved shirt, light jean shorts, and my black Vans and then put my hair in a messy bun and head downstairs only to be greeted by my father.

"Hey, I thought you were at work." I say while leaning against the island and biting into an apple.

"I have to go in at 9 today instead of 7, which I can't complain about. How's that boy, Leo treating you?" he asks me.

"Well, we've only been together for two days, but he's a really good guy. I dont think he would ever do anything to purposely hurt me dad. I dont think you need to worry." I say with a light laugh.

"Ok, ok," he says putting his hands up in defense, "Just checking. You should probably get going, its getting late." he looks down to check his watch.

"Alrighty, I'm going to try and catch up with Gus, I'll see ya later." I say with a wave and then head out through the garage. I see Gus walking over from his house, staring intently down at the ground.

"Hey!" I yell jogging down to meet him. I see him pop his head up and a small smile appears on his face.

"Hey." he replies to me.

"Where have you been, I haven't talked to you since Saturday. You were starting to make me worried." I tell him.

"Oh sorry about that, I've been, uh, busy." He rubs the back of his neck and I know that he only does that when he's nervous.

"Uh huh." I reply doubtfully.

"So, how was your date?" he says clearly trying to change the subject.

Based on how he's acted toward this subject before, I'm not totally sure I want to tell him about it. But, I cant lie to him and he'll find out eventually anyway.

"It was nice, Leo took me to a cute little cafe called Lou's, and then when we got home, he asked me to be his girlfriend. I said yes, and he kissed me." I tell him quietly, nervous for his reaction.

When I finally look up at him, he is staring at me with wide eyes.

"So, your together now? Like he's your boyfriend?" he whispers.

"Yes." And with that he just looks back down at the ground and is silent the rest of the way to school.

----

It's been one week since Augustus has even made an attempt to talk to me. Things have been going pretty good with Leo and Adelyn and I have been getting pretty close. We've even planned to do some things together this summer, which will be nice, since I haven't made to many friends yet.

It's finally Friday and I just arrived to school after 4 days of walking alone. I'm going to be honest in saying that this week really hasn't been the best. I hear my name being called from down the hall. I look up and see Adelyn running toward me. As soon as she reaches me she grabs my wrist and begins to tug me down the hallway.

"Adelyn, what's going on!" I try and ask her but she pretty much just ignores me.

"Not now, just hurry up!" she yells back. At this point people were staring at us as she drags me down the hallway.

I wasn't prepared for what I would find at the end of it. Leo, apparently very unconcerned about being in public, was heatedly making out with a tall blonde that I recognized to be Natalie Barnes, captain of the school cheer team. The confusion I had in me before was now replaced by anger. What a way to end things with your first boyfriend.
