It was Friday. The day ruby was going to ask Gilbert out. I had to make sure Gilbert stays mine and only mine. But what do I do? Ruby is my friend I can't do that to her. I sound crazy! Am I crazy? Whatever I just need to get along with my day. Diana was picking me up today instead of us walking. I got ready and stood on my porch waiting for her to arrive. A bright blue car rolled up in my driveway and I grabbed my bag and ran towards it.

"Hey Anne!"

"Hey diana!"

We talked for a while until we got to school. And sure enough Gilbert and ruby were standing under a cheery blossom tree. Tears. Tears started dripping down my face. I am a monster. I got out of the car and ran. I ran to the bathroom and sat in a stall for a long time.

As I walked up to school I saw ruby under a cherry blossom tree calling my name. I walked up to her.

"Gilbert, I've liked you for a really long time. I hope you like me back and are willing to date me?"

I didn't know what to do. I don't want to break this poor girls heart! She seemed so nice. But what would anne think about this?

"Um well I like you bu-"

"GREAT! Our first date is Monday after school. Meet me here okay?"

"Uhh okay?"

Crap. I was going to let her down nicely but she wouldn't let me finish! What do I do? I walked inside and walked to English class. I saw Anne walking out of the bathroom with tears dripping down her cheeks.

"Diana told me..."

"Wait, it's not like that."

"DON'T BOTHER TALKING TO ME"

And with that she ran into the classroom. I couldn't do it. I went home and cried. I love Anne and I didn't want to loose her. But ruby is so nice and fragile. I can't do that to her. Just yet...

Today was horrendous. I couldn't take one second of it. I decided to go to the nurses office and go home.

•time skip•

When I got home Matthew was on the floor.

"MATTHEW GET UP!" I screamed.

Tears streaming down my face as I kept screaming!

"MARILLA MARILLA PLEASE HELP MATTHEW IS UNCONSCIOUS ON THE FLOOR"

After I said marilla came inside. The rest of that day was a blur. I didn't eat. I didn't drink. I didn't cry. Just nothing.

I needed to talk to her. It was about 8:00. I knocked on the door and Anne answered.

"What do you want?!?"

Her eyes were red and puffy. The house was empty. She had tears streaming down her cheeks. She was a mess.

"Can I come inside?"

"Sure whatever..." she said

We walked over and sat on he couch.

"Today was an awful day. First all of this shit with you... then Matthew"

"Wait what happened with Matthew?"

"He fell and went unconscious... marilla and Jerry are at the hospital with him now..."

"... Anne I'm so sorry... I don't like ruby I tried to say that to her but she wouldn't listen... I like you and no one else! You mean the world to me! I cried as soon as I left school today. I didn't want to loose you. Your the only thing I have in life that's good. My entire family died and now no one is left. I go home to an empty house everyday. It's horrible. I want you, and only you."

"... I like you too gilbert... but what about ruby?!?! We can't just leave her in a ditch"

"I'll text her now and explain everything"

Gblythe: hey ruby... I know this is awful and I'm sorry... I don't like you and I was going to tell you that if you had let me finish.

Rubyg: it's okay. I know you didn't like me but I didn't want to accept that yet. I'm sorry what I did was wrong...

Gblythe: no it's fine! Your a great friend and an amazing person... you deserve only the best.

I can't believe this! We like each other! I am extremely happy right now! I wish I could date him... but Matthew would never allow that...
