Plan A: Whatever That Is...

I'm dashing across the front lawn in mere seconds, headed towards my car. With no sign of Baylor, I hop into my car and drive out of my aunt's driveway into the street.

I don't know where my aunt and uncle went to, but I have to head home to get mom. She and I are in some serious mess that we both need to get out of. I can rush home, pack our bags, and maybe fly us out of the country. It may sound ludicrous, but I have to have SOME type of plan. I will do anything for my mom's safety, as she would do for me.

When I drive up into my driveway, the door is partly open. I slowly get out of the car, and walk carefully to the door.

I walk inside of my house to see a girl around my age standing in my living room. I didn't want her to know I was there, so I crept behind the wall separating the living room from the dining room, watching her carefully.

When I finally get a good look at her, I realize that it's the girl in one of the articles that I saw in my aunt's house. Her grandmother was murdered by an "unknown attacker". But why would she be here in my house. I don't even know her!

I finally muster up the courage to confront the girl.

"Who are you?" I ask.

"Who are YOU?" She asks.

"I'm the son of the woman who owns this house. What are you doing here?" I ask her.

"I'm Melanie Autumn, my grandmother was the woman who was recently murdered. I came here to ask your mother about an assignment she gave to the class, but when I got here, the door was open so I walked in. I called out to see if anyone was here, but no one answered. I apologize for intruding." She says.

Oh yeah, I forgot. My mom teaches an archeologist class for younger people at the center. Sometimes, students come over to talk to her.

"That's okay. Wait, did you say no one was here?" I asked her.

"Yeah, I looked all over but no one was here. Did something happen?" She asked.

"Oh no! They got her! Dude, I have to hurry!" I panic.

I start running up the stairs and into my room. Melanie comes in and sits down on the bed next to my suitcase.

"I'm starting to think who ever has your mother, has been committing all the murders that's been happening around the country. Ever since my grandmother died, I've been living on my own. I would do anything to catch whoever has been committing all of the murders. If you are about to find them, then I would like to come with you." She said.

This girl, who I've never known or met, has really made a great impression on me. To be her age, she's very courageous. I really admire her for that. That's why she deserves to know the truth.

I told her everything that happened today, and she listened without a look of doubt. She didn't interrupt or make noises; just sat there and listened. After I was done explaining, she sat there for a few moments until she finally spoke.

"That explains why the cops haven't really been trying to investigate on any of the murders. I should have known something like this would happen. I mean, I knew we were in a recession but I didn't think things were that bad. I'm so sorry that all of this happened to you today. What are you going to do?" She asks.

I didn't really know what to do, but I had to think of something. And whatever that something is, I knew it included Melanie's help.

I think things over in my head while I finish packing my stuff in my suitcase. When I finally come up with a good plan, I look over a Melanie.
