Usagi four

>>>>CHAPTER 4<<<<

>>>>It’s Never Enough<<<<

As soon as they arrived at his house, Itsuki acted very cold and distant.

"Sleep on the couch. Don't disturb me." He spoke to with no emotion. Usagi did as he said and lay along the couch, but no matter how much she tried, she couldn't sleep.

She'd been lying down for a few hours now, staring up at the ceiling.

It was at exactly 11:37 when she heard a strange noise.

After a few coughs were heard, everything went completely silent.

Little Usagi walked into her father’s room.

He wasn't there.

She walked around the house, looking for her father.

Usagi had only just found him earlier today. He couldn't have left already... Could he?

What Itsuki did was much worse than run away.

Usagi walked into a room not far from his bedroom. It was his study room.

She walked into the room, noticing something glinting in the moonlight.

Walking around to where she saw the glint, she noticed it was a kunai.

A kunai that was wrapped in her father’s hand. Her father’s unconscious hand.

Blood dripped off the kunai. Drip.

Drip.

Drip.

Drip.

The noise echoed in Usagi’s head as she watched the crimson blood spread across her father’s chest.

Tears welling up in her eyes, she ran from the house as fast as she could.

Itsuki Uchiha, Usagi’s father, had committed suicide.

Usagi crouched down on a bench, a good distance away from her house.

Tears fell from her eyes as she stared up at the night sky.

She really was nothing but a curse.

---- ---- ---- ----

"If the rain that day
Had stopped
I'm sure we probably would have passed right by each other," The sound of a song travelled through the dark night.

"If the bus had come
At its usual time
We may not have ever met,"

Kakashi paused at the sound of the voice. It was almost midnight, who would be out singing at this hour? Not to mention the girl singing was probably very young.

"If even for a little bit
That moment had shifted
We would have followed very different fates,"

Kakashi walked towards the voice, curious as to who was singing.

"I want to forever see
The same future that you do
Let's forever look at
The same stars at the same place
In the future you envision
I wonder if I exist
I want to look at
The same sky feeling the same emotions,"

As Kakashi neared the voice, he saw a young girl sitting on a park bench. It was Usagi.

She stopped singing as she saw the silver haired ANBU.

Kakashi noticed that she had tears running down her face. "What are you doing here? It’s late... Where's your father?"

Usagi stayed silent. Kakashi approached the child. "Usagi...?"

"He killed himself." Usagi spoke quietly, her voice barely a whisper. Kakashi was shocked at the words.

"He..." Kakashi whispered, his voice trailing off into silence.

Usagi stood up, grabbing onto the ANBU's leg and leading him to her father’s house.

Kakashi followed the girl without question. As they reached the house, he noticed that Usagi's hand was trembling slightly.

"Just wait here. I’ll be back in a minute." Usagi nodded as Kakashi went into the house.

He followed the scent of blood, and found Itsuki lying on the floor of his study, fresh blood still pouring from his wound. He had stabbed himself in the heart.

Little Usagi waited for the silver haired man to come back. She didn't want to be alone.

As she waited, she looked peered inside, glancing at the clock on the wall. 11:57.

Her birthday was almost over.

Kakashi came back a minute after that, a sad look on his face.

The first thing he did as he saw the young girl was give her a hug.

When Kakashi was young, his father had also committed suicide. He wasn't sure how to comfort Usagi, but he knew one thing for sure. He couldn't leave her.

Kakashi carried the young girl to the ANBU base. He had to report what had happened, but he couldn't tell the Hokage until tomorrow morning, as he isn't in his office at this time of night.

After reporting the death of Itsuki Uchiha, Kakashi asked what would happen to his daughter.

"Take her to the Hokage first thing in the morning."

"Where's she staying until then?" He asked

"With you."

Before Kakashi could protest, the door was shut in his face.

"... Come on." He sighed, taking Usagi’s hand.

---- ---- ---- ----

After setting up a futon in the spare room, Kakashi realized that he hadn't properly introduced himself to Usagi.

"I'm Kakashi Hatake." He said, making some tea for the two of them.

Usagi nodded, taking a sip of the tea in front of her. After two seconds, she spat it back into the cup, putting her hand to her mouth.

"Careful, it’s hot." Kakashi said, trying not to laugh.

Usagi cooled down her tea before drinking it this time.

After the two had their tea, Kakashi spoke up. "Is there anything you need?"

Usagi shook her head. His kindness was more than enough.

The two soon headed to bed. Kakashi’s room was only across the hall from where Usagi was sleeping, so he said to wake him if she needed anything.

Kakashi fell asleep quickly, whereas Usagi couldn't sleep at all. Instead, she looked out the window, admiring the stars and moon. All the stars looked so free and happy, they were always shining bright, lighting up the sky, and the moon... Well, the moon was like the parent star, looking over the sky and all the little stars. The night sky was a happy family.

In what felt like a minute, the night sky soon faded into a beautiful sunrise. Dawn was a beautiful time of day. The orange colour of the sky was gorgeous.

After looking at the clouds in the orange morning sky, Usagi decided to go see if Kakashi was awake.

... He wasn't. Usagi tried to wake him by shaking his shoulder, but he wouldn't budge.

After a solid ten minutes of trying, Usagi retreated to the lounge.

She noticed a book sitting on a shelf with a rather odd title. 'Tales of a gutsy ninja.'

She nevertheless tried to read the book, but she was too short to reach the shelf.

In an attempt to grab the book, she pushed a nearby chair to the shelf, standing on top of it and grabbing the book. The attempt worked fine as she reached the book, however getting down from the chair didn't work so well as getting up.

Usagi fell off the chair and crashed face first into the ground. The loud thud was apparently enough to wake Kakashi, as he ran from his room.

"What happened?!" He asked as he saw Usagi lying on the floor. She stood up, her left cheek bright pink from the fall, and showed Kakashi the book she had in her hand.

"You fell off the chair after grabbing that book?" Kakashi asked, piecing everything together.

Usagi nodded, holding the book in her arms. "Are you alright?" Kakashi asked, inspecting her now red cheek.

She nodded again. "That's gonna bruise..." Kakashi sighed.

After eating breakfast and getting ready, the two left for the Hokage’s office.

They had a long day ahead of them.

A/N       And so the depressing arc ends :3

I know, the story has been quite dark, but things are turning around, yay!

Also, out of boredom, I have decided to start naming the chapters. This one was called ‘It’s Never Enough’ because Usagi really wanted to be the perfect daughter to Itsuki, but it seemed that her efforts were never enough.

Anyway. Thanks for reading!
