Prologue: Evil Toaster

I leaned against the kitchen counter, waiting for my toast to be done. I was never one for waking up early but today was my free day and free days are hard to come by now and then. I watch the clock intently, the second hand ticking ever slowly. The measly sound starts to annoy me after a while. The clock reads '6:00' which means Nicholas should be home any minute.

Ding!

I nearly jump out of my wits.

No matter how many times I stand there in front of that toaster, the damn thing scares the hell out of me every time. I grab the the warm pieces of toast, and curse the evil bread heater under my breath.

I sigh, slumping onto the sofa.

Nothing exciting was happening today.

I hated it.

I shoved a slice of bread in my mouth, chewing loudly. Crumbs were getting everywhere but ask me if I cared.

I called my dog over, giving him the remaining slice of bread. I didn't really have much of an appetite today, besides Nicholas is bringing me something special and I'm super pumped.

You're probably wondering who Nicholas is.

Well, he's my servant.

Hey, don't look at me like that. I needed someone to look after the house when I was at work. Especially after my lovely pooch (pooch being my dog).

I heard a knock at the door. It better be Nicholas. I yell at whoever is at the door to come in, not bothering to check first. Of course it's Nicholas. On time as usual.

"Madam, your coffee."

A wide grin spreads across my face.

It's finally here.

"Hello Nicholas! So glad you could join us. Pooch says hello!" I say excitedly

Nicholas chuckles and plays with pooch for a bit. They get along so well. I get jealous sometimes that pooch loves him more than me, but I don't blame him.

"Alright Nicholas, give it here."

Nicholas nods and hands me the cup of iced coffee.

Starbucks, my favorite.

"Vanilla bean?" I ask

Nicholas looks at the ground and stays quiet.

"What is it?"

He continues to look at the ground and he begins to play with his fingers.

"I, uh, well- they didn't have the one you want so I brought you a different kind."

I sigh, patting Nicholas on his shoulder.

"It's quite alright, no need to worry."

Nicholas seems to relax once I've said that and he regains his posture.

I smirk slightly, taking out my pocket blade that I always keep in my pocket.

"Ma'am I-"

I shut him up by bringing the cool blade to his lips.

"Shhh, shhh, Nicholas you wouldn't want to anger me more than I am right now, would you?"

He quickly shakes his head, backing away slightly.

I shove him against the wall, bringng the blade to his neck, sliding it across the soft skin, cutting it slightly. He winces in pain, and I take the blade away. I take a sip of the coffee he brought me and I sigh.

It's okay I guess.

But it's not vanilla bean, and that makes me very unhappy.

"What kind of servant are you if you can't even complete a simple task as getting me the damn cup of coffee I requested?"

Of course I get no response

I slide my finger across his jawline teasingly, causing him to shiver. I chuckle.

"You are putty in my hands, Nicholas."

I reach into his pocket, taking his handkerchief and wiping the droplets of blood that formed on his neck.

"Don't let this happen again, Nicholas. I won't let you off easy next time."

"Ye-yes ma'am." he stutters

No one messes with my coffee.

I actually hate coffee
