"Was that Kayla?" Matt asked Stan as he and June caught up with him.
"Yeah, it was," Stan replied.
Stan felt kind of guilty about not confiding in Matt about Kayla. Matt was a bonehead sometimes but he was his friend...a good friend. He had took Stan under his wing when he had first moved here and Stan felt like he owed him the truth at least...as long as he swore him to secrecy.
"Hey Matt, I need to talk to you about something. Do you have a minute?"
Stan looked pointedly at June who was looking at him with a puzzled look on her face.
"Oh yeah, sure" June said snapping out of her daydream, "I have something I need to do anyway. I'll catch up to you guys later," she said as she almost ran off.
"So what's up?" Matt asked Stan.
"Matt, I haven't been entirely honest with you about Kayla," Stan began.
"What do you mean?" Matt asked looking puzzled.
"Well, we're not dating or anything like that," Stan began trying to figure out how to say what he wanted to tell him, "but I like her. We're friends, and I've liked her for some time now."
"Wow, so if you like her, why aren't y'all dating?" Matt asked.
"Well, it's kind of complicated," Stan began. "I'm going to tell you Matt, but you have to promise me that this will be just between us, and you definitely can't tell June."
"Okay, I can do that," Matt agreed wondering what Stan had to say. "I know June can be a bitch and she sure as hell can't keep her mouth shut. I don't tell her EVERYTHING you know. So what is it?"
Stan shook his head in wonder, not believing what he was about to say. He kind of wanted Matt's opinion though, so he had to talk to him about what was bothering him.
"I think I may be in love with Kayla," said Stan.
"What? Get the fuck outta here!" Matt exclaimed. "Stan you're a player like me. You'd be committing social suicide just going out with Kayla, but to fall in love with her...I can't even imagine."
"I know, and I don't even care about that anymore," said Stan. "I thought I did at first, but not anymore; Kayla's more important to me. I didn't plan to fall in love with Kayla, it just happened."
"You just kissed her once so you can't be in love with her after just one kiss...I don't think," Matt tried to reason with Stan.
"This is just between you and me, right?" Stan reminded Matt waiting for him to nod his head before he continued.
"There was a lot more than just kissing Matt," Stan began. "we slept together. I was interested in her before we slept together, afterwards I became almost obsessed. You know that I've slept with a lot of girls, but none of them made me feel like Kayla."
Matt was shocked. He thought he knew Stan better than anyone and wondered how he had managed to keep this from him.
"Well, how does she feel about you?" he asked.
"She says she loves me," Stan sighed.
"Well, you aren't exactly jumping up and down with joy," Matt observed. "What's the problem?"
"I think she's confusing sex with love," I explained. "I don't think she knows the difference. I don't think she really knows how she feels."
"Sounds to me like you're making something out of nothing," Matt said logically.
"I know, but she was a virgin, she doesn't have much experience with guys," I tried to explain my actions. "I think she's confused. I know that I love her, but I want her to be sure."
"So what brought all of this on?" Matt asked curious.
"I saw Kenny kissing her and I almost lost it," I admitted. "I was so angry with her that we got into a big fight and I almost raped her," I told him still embarassed.
"Man, that's not rape," Matt exclaimed. "NEVER say rape; that's a bad word. That's fuck-fighting--that's some of the best sex a guy can have. Me and June fuck-fight just for the hell of it a coupla times a month at least...it's totally worth all the bullshit I have to put up with."
"Well it felt like rape to me," I said as I noticed Matt shaking his head at my use of that word again. "I've never treated any woman like that before and I don't want to again."
"So what's the solution then?" Matt asked shaking his head at Stan's confusion.
"That we date other people...for now," Stan told Matt. "Maybe we'll find each other again if we're meant to be together. Dating other people will give us a chance to see if we really love one another."
"Oh I get it," Matt said smiling. "You want me, your best bud, to fuck her and help her make up her mind."
"Hell no! You touch her, you DIE!" Stan yelled as he grabbed Matt by the collar. "I mean it Matt."
"Alright dude, chill," Matt held his arms up in a fake surrender signaling Stan to let go of him.
"Man, I can't believe that you gave her permission to go screw somebody else," he said in amazement. "Think about it, you were the only one to be with her! How could you do that?"
"I didn't say screw," I reminded him. "I said date. Kayla isn't the type to screw around with just anyone."
"Yeah well...Kenny is, and you know what he has planned if she agrees to go out with him," Matt reminded me.
"Yeah, I know. I just hope Kayla isn't too naive and can take care of herself," I said. "She's going to Paris' party with Kenny. You'll have to help me keep an eye on them."
"Sure man, no problem," Matt said. "that's what friends are for. Can I give you some advice though?"
Stan nodded.
"You know that I'm not really into this love stuff," Matt said, "but if you loved her you would fight for her and be with her no matter what you think is right or wrong. I think that if you two weren't in love the relationship would die out after a while and you would know anyway. You don't have to go around dating other people to find that out; sometimes you just have to gamble."
"Maybe you're right," Stan said considering what Matt had said. "But I trust Kayla, I know that she isn't going to become a whore. I don't like the thought of her sleeping with anyone else, but from what I know of her, I don't think she will. She may date them, and that's okay, but even that'll help her decide if she really loves me or not."
"So basically, what you're saying is that you dick-whipped her and you know she'll be back," Matt said smiling.
"Yeah, something like that," I agreed laughing.
