Six Years Old
Liam was looking outside his bedroom window when he realized a large moving van parked at his next door neighbor's home. Curioius, he sprinted to his backyard. He crouched down behind the white pickett fence and peeked through the gaps. He saw some movement but couldn't see much. So he slowly stood up and peeked over the top. He saw a girl. She was young, perhaps around Liam's six years of age. She was playing with a doll; brushing its hair. Liam smiled. Maybe he would get a new friend today.
"Liam!" He turned when he heard his name called. He saw his mother in the doorway. She was holding a plate of cookies. "Let's go welcome the new neighbors." She told him. Liam nodded eagerly and followed his mother and two older sisters to the next house on the left.
When the lady opened the door Liam saw that little girl coming in from the back door. Behind the lady Liam connected eyes with her. Liam smiled. The girl smiled. When the lady called for the girl she came to the door.
"Emily...this is our neighbors." The lady said to the little girl. Emily smiled at Liam and reached out her hand. Liam smiled back and shook it.
"Welcome to Wolverhampton." Liam said politely. Emily just smiled and released his hand.
"Thanks...do you want to play dolls with me?" She asked Liam. Dolls? Liam doesn't play dolls. He plays with his Power Ranger action figures.
"Sure." He said anyways. Emily grabbed Liam's hand and led him through the house to the back door. Liam caught a glance at all the boxes scattered throughout the kitchen and living room. Liam was led to the back yard and he saw Barbie's and small dolls scattered everywhere.
"Here." Emily said handing Liam a Ken doll. "You can be Ken." She told him with a smile. Liam sat next to Emily and started moving the doll. "Hi Ken." Emily said for her Barbie doll. Liam cleared his voice, making it as deep as his six year old throat would let him.
"Hi Barbie." Liam said, his voice cracking into a higher pitch. Emily giggled.
"Wait...what is your name?" Emily asked suddenly.
"Liam Payne." Liam told him.
"How old are you?" She then asked.
"Six." Liam replied with a smile.
"I'm eight." Emily said. "But that's okay." She corrected. "Because you're already my best friend." She told Liam. This made him smile. He's got a new friend. A new friend called Emily.
