*a few years ago at the prison*

"Carl! get back here!" I yell while chasing him around the prison yard, I hear him chuckle as he runs up to the basketball court. I catch up to him and try to even my breathing out.

"give me my comic back" I reach for it but he protested by lifting it out of my reach and shakes his head. "aw c'mon! I ran! y'know how much exercise that is?!" I complain, he lets out another chuckle. I take a step closer while he backs up.

He points at something
"what?" I question as my head turns to the direction. "what?!" I ask again and look at Carl, but he's already running towards a door. "CARL YOU LITTLE SHIT!" I shout, the door already shut. "ugh" I groan while I head over to it. No one checked this side of the prison, I have my holster attached to my leg. My flashlight was in my backpack but it's still sunrise. "Carl, we didn't check this part-" I whisper but got cut off by glass shattering. Fear bottled up in my stomach, I walk further down the hallway. Walkers with arrows pierced through their skull, Daryl must've cleared it?

Shoes made a impact to the ground, making an echo- hearing someone stride at a fast pace. My hands start to shake, I can't make out where the sound is coming from. "C-Carl?" my voice comes out small with a stutter.

"Y-You can come back now." I proclaimed, trying to make my voice clear. There was still no trace of him, I walked around a bit longer before hesitantly going back to the exit door. Laughter echoed throughout the empty room, my heart skips a beat

"Carl you dipshit! You scared me- ugh!!" I groan in annoyance while running up to him and engulfing him in a hug. He lets out a soft laugh as he hugs me back.

Alexandria was pretty quiet at night, I look up at the sky and try to figure out where the big dipper was. I tried to remember how to find it, Carl has shown me before- but I can't seem to find it.

I sit down, tears stinging my eyes, threatening to fall.

I look at his grave

"y-you can come back now"
