2 Months Later
"-then x equals 11." I explained the answer to the equation for Jesse as he struggled on problem 8 of our math assignment.
"Then how'd I get 23?!" He sighed in frustration.
I sighed, looking over his scratch paper and seeing the error in the beginning of his equation.
"Right there!" I faced palmed myself.
"Oh!" He laughed at his mistake, correcting it immediately.
"How could you get that wrong? Linear equations is the easiest thing we've learned so far this year." I giggled hysterically, pulling my hair out of my face.
"Everybody has their strengths in certain subjects, and algebra is definitely not mine." He shut his note book putting it into his bag.
"I'm gonna order Chinese food if that's okay." I grab my cell phone from the coffee table.
"Yeah. Kung Pao chicken is fine with me. Imma' use the bathroom." He said as he stood up.
I nodded, dialing the number to The Chinese restaurant 10 blocks away and ordering a Kung Pao chicken, fried rice, shrimp chop suey and roasted duck.
"That'll be $25.89, delivery will take half a hour." The lady with the thick Chinese accent.
Just as I put the phone down, Jesse came out of the bathroom.
"Thirty minutes." I said as I pulled my hair into a ponytail.
"Okay." He said as he plopped down on the couch.
"The 1975 are coming to town next month. Tickets go out like next week." I reminded.
"Are you serious?! How much are they?" He said with his voice laced with excitement.
"About 200 dollars each, for front row seats."
"Now, this is what I will use my allowance for. It better be worth it."
"I hope so too."

The next dayI walked through the entrance of school. Banners, signs, and flyers were taped to the walls. Crowded hallways. It was Homecoming Week.
I mazed my way throug the people, this time of year is hectic, especially for senior girls. Wanting to become homecoming queen, or for homecoming court.
I grabbed my notebooks quickly and walked to class. Hoping that I wouldn't be asked to vote, because I surely won't.
The only thing I hate about homecoming week is that most of the girls already know what their up against, what's the point of trying to become Homecoming Queen? We already know who it's gonna be, of course, the one and only Lacy Benett.
"Hey Ken! Do you mind voting for me?" She asked, slipping a flyer into my binder.
I gave her a small nod and walked away. Rolling my eyes while at it.
I walked into my science classroom, taking a seat back in the fourth row, hoping that Jesse will make it on time to school today.
Mr. Quinn walked into the room with a cup of coffee in his hand and smiled.
"Morning." I greeted.
"Morning." He greeted back, setting his coffee his down.
I grabbed my earphones from my backpack, plugging it into my phone and drowning myself in Alex Turner's--of the Arctic Monkeys-- voice.
The music filled my ears as I gently rocked my head to the beat. Suddenly Jesse pulled one of my earphones out and put it into his ear.
"Cornerstone?" He asked after listening to some of the lyrics.
I nodded, happy that he knows the song.
"Yup Alex Turner has an amazing voice. And an amazing face." I pointed out, sighing dreamily for effect.
Jesse took his seat next to me as the bell rang, giving me back my earphone.
"You know girls say I'm an Alex Turner myself." He whispered to avoid getting detention from Mr. Quinn.
I giggled. "Girls? What girls?"
He opened his mouth, about to respond.
"And your mom doesn't count." I cut in.
He dropped his face, defeated.

At lunch
"Lunch sucks." I told Jesse as I made a face to the people with trays of gross stuff.
"I know. Wanna grab some brick oven pizza at that new place down the street?" He asked.
"Mmm that sounds so much better than this jail food." I laughed.
He offered his arm and I latched mine around it.
We got into his car and drove there, listening to the The Neighbourhood album and singing off pitch.
When he got out he rushed over to my side and opened my door for me. I said a thanks as we walked to the restaurant and took our seats.
"Oh my god Kendall! Is that you?!?" Lacy's shrill voice pierced through me.
I smiled at her and tried my hardest not to roll my eyes. "Of course it's me! What're you doing here?" I asked, hoping I seemed genuinely excited even though I really didn't wanna be there right now.
"Who's your friend!" She said, eyeing up Jesse. I get a surge of jealousy go through me.
"He's cute." She whispered loud enough for him to hear.
I cleared my throat, trying to calm myself and will myself to not punch her in the face.
"Lacy, Jesse, Jesse, Lacy" I said, introducing them.
"Nice to meet you." Jesse said, a smile on his face as he held out his hand for her to shake.
"I do hugs." She said cheerily.
Jesse happily obliged, taking in her scent.
I looked down to the ground awkwardly. Jealousy surging through my body.
What Lacey wants, Lacey gets.
