Chapter One

My eyes snapped open as my alarm clock blared. I grabbed it happily and threw it across the room with pleasure.

I yawned and went over to where I threw the clock.
7pm, I was actually early from once. I pulled out a mirror to check my reflection. I have dark brown hair. Like dark DARK almost black hair. Some people call me Cat Girl because I have different colored eyes. Only a selective few listened when I said just because I have one blue eye and one green doesn't mean I was a cat lady. In fact I'm more of a bird fan.

Birds always seem free and uncontrolled, riding in the wind. Their wings were small but able to bring them anywhere. When I die I want wings so I can soar around, looking for gossip.

I put on a white shirt and a light blue scarf. The worst part of school was the school uniforms. But at least our school had some favorable colors. The blue and white are able to make some pretty good color combos.

I grabbed my headphones and IPhone. No new messages, but seven emails. I shrugged and threw the phone into my backpack.
I could check them at school.

I stepped out of my room and went downstairs, giving my sister a nod of acknowledgement. She rolled her eyes and went back to perfecting the best last day of school selfie on Instagram.

I muttered something at her under my breath.

"Sweetie,we're out of groceries, so have an Orange instead". My mother said, coming just in time to stop a future fight. It's like she can sniff out stuff like that.

I gave her my best fake smile, before digging in. It wasn't much but, I rather like citrus and it's better than nothing.

"Not really".

I shrugged. Carmen had a weird ability to guess my thoughts. Sometimes it seemed as if she wasn't guessing.

I shoved her gently.

"Come on, I'm not going to be the late one".

She sighed.

"You murdered my hair". She complained, pointing to her perfectly fine head.

I pretended to ignore that as I grabbed my backpack.

"Bye Mom", I shouted as I walked out the door.

Carmen walked past me in her haughty way, right to her "friends".

I sighed. So much for sisterly love.

I walked silently across the worn sidewalks of Redwood Academy. My foot caught a root and I tripped so quickly that before I could do anything.

As I fell, I thought, "Wow isn't this a stupid way to be remembered for the summer"

But before I hit the ground someone grabbed my arm, snapping me into real time.
I stepped back slightly to see who had been lucky enough to be my saver.

Looked like a boy about fourteen, with blonde hair and hazel, almond shaped eyes.

I could already tell this was the type of person my sister would obese over for days.

"Excuse me you murdered my hair". I said in a fake snotty way.

"Umm.....sorry?" he said.

"Just kidding, I prefer to look like trash for school anyway. I'm Cassandra, thank you for helping my fashion career of horrors".

"My name is Cliff . My family rules at weird names."

I smirked slightly."Well see you around then Cliff".

He nodded and started walking with his other buddies.

Carmen smirked at me with a twinkle in her eyes.

"Well happy summer Cassandra".
