Chapter 9

A few days had passed since I had found out about the texts Craig was getting. Baz had been getting close to Nicki's dad, much to the pushing of Smurf. That whole family seemed pretty off if anyone was ever going to ask for my opinion. Smurf told me she burned the plans to the company party that I had given her. A party that was in less than three weeks, would have been perfect. However now between shoots I was finding myself trying to come up with reasons why Deran was ignoring Marcel or why Craig probably wouldn't want to be my date to the party.

I knew what went on in these Vegas gigs. I knew I could handle not doing coke, or anything for a single night. Craig however had zero control, not that I ever hold it against him. However my end goal with my career really wouldn't survive a scandal at these parties. Though I could always just tell him I needed him to behave. Though was that not why I loved him? Because he was mildly untamed?

"Excuse me, this seat taken?" I head from beside me, I had been sitting alone in this cafe for easily three hours reading a book. Though I was really sitting here staring at the pages I wasn't turning thinking about the Cody family, their next heist, Craig's safety and Nicki. I looked towards the woman's voice who had spoken to me.

She was a tall slender black woman, she was radiant, beautiful and clearly worked for one of the big agencies. C.I.A, F.B.I, U.S.D.D maybe even secret services. The suit gave her away, and the man wearing her counter in uniform beside her. "Of course not." I offered to her as I put my book back into my purse. "Was there something I could help you with?" I asked her with a smile.

"Of course Miss. Luna, or is it Hewitt. You're mother never registered you or your siblings with your biological names when she brought you all here, so that was a little hard for us to find it out. Emilia Hewitt doesn't sound as Hollywood as Caterina Luna... does it?" She asked me.

"I wouldn't know, she told us she changed our names to escape our father. I didn't see a point in changing it back, seeing as she changed them legally in Australia so the names she registered were our names. Luna being her maiden name, is there a point to this Miss?" I asked her as she smirked.

"Detective Yates. Family was always a sore spot for you, younger brother left, older brother is a junkie. Then there is you, how did a girl like you get shacked up with Craig Cody, or well any Cody to be more specific?" She asked me.

"We learned to forgive our father years ago, Oliver going back was for school. Australia has some of the best Universities for Marine studies. As for Elliot, I don't care what he does, he and I checked out of each others lives years ago." I told her, "Now does this inquisition have a point Detective Yates or are you just fishing? Last I checked, there are no laws stating who I'm allowed to date as a tax paying citizen or do you require proof I'm legal?"

She just laughed softly, "We know you are, we also know that your ex boyfriend- "she paused looking through a small booklet. "Rafael Garcia was found murdered not to long after you were treated for abuse wounds at a walk-in? Care to explain that?" She asked me as my eyes widened. "Raffy is dead?" I asked her, I had always assumed he was dead. I think deep down I knew, he was unreachable, his apartment was emptied and resold. No one either of us knew had seen or heard from him and he just stopped showing up to work. Obviously I was in denial.

"Strange you didn't know." She commented. "Well would you care if someone that beat you up died? Why would I question him not showing up anymore in my life, not the first time he hurt me, refused to think it would be the last." I told her, "Again, is there a reason for this?"

She nodded, "Well,-" She told me as she clasped her hands on the table. "We know a lot more about you than a dead ex boyfriend; squeaky clean record, great job, curbed drug addiction. You did great in school, so brings me back to why you would be hanging around a family that's been long suspected of robberies and murders." She questioned me.
