Valerie’s P.O.V.

I made my way outside, two blades in hand. Everyone followed me.

“Come on Valerie. Don’t do this,” Jackson pleaded.

“Tell me one good reason why not,” I stopped and turned to him.

“You’re not going to survive against rouges. They won’t hesitate to kill you.”

“Too bad I won’t give them a chance to kill me. Now give me a real reason.” I shifted so all my weight was on my right foot.

He opened and closed his mouth a few times before hesitantly asking, “I... I... I care about you?”

I laughed, “You don’t care for me. You thought I was a weak and worthless human.” I spat at him.

He looked down, “I’m sorry.”

“Not good enough!” I turned on my heel and started to head towards the forest once again.

“WAIT!” Someone yelled.

I whipped back around, “What?”

I was met with a chest. He placed his hands on my upper arms. It sent shocks through my whole body.

‘Mate,’ my wolf purred.

I closed my eyes and breathed in his sent. It smelt like the forest after a rain storm. It was so calming that I dropped the swords.

“Please don’t go,” My mate pleaded.

I shook my head, “I don’t even know you.”

He lifted my chin to look at his face. The mystery dude. The one who was staring at me the first night I was here at the dinner table. The one who heard the conversation between Ryder and I. The one who informed Jackson of the problem earlier.

“My name is Everett. I’m Jackson’s beta.”

I looked at him curiously.

Then I smiled; “Now I have a reason to not go on a killing spree.”

He smiled back.

“What’s going on here?” Jackson yelled at us.

We both turned to look at him, still smiling from ear to ear.

“We are going to go get to know each other.” Everett turned and winked at me.

I squealed as he picked me up bridal style and started to walk back into the house. Jackson was utterly confused. His mate, I think her name is Naomi, whispered in his ear and he suddenly understood. I just laughed at him as Everett carried me off to his room.

I'm not going to go into full detail to what happened. All you need to know is that he marked me. We didn’t mate, after all we like just met. He was the one who suggested we wait till we know each other better.

Sooner or later though, I'm going to have to tell him about me being a pack warrior. It’s not exactly something that you can keep from your mate. Especially when there is a huge moon with two blades tattooed on your lower back. Don’t worry, every pack warrior has a tattoo. We get it as soon as we accept the ‘job’. I'm sure Theo has one too. Just some of them are easier to hide than others. As long as I don’t wear belly tops or bikinis, I'm good.

Screw Monday, heres the next chapter. I know it's really short, but it explains some things. Did you like the name Everett? I thought it was cute.

Hope you liked it..
