Hundreds of thousands rushed to the one place they knew in London that they could maybe get answers: Downing Street. Mothers with children, daylight thugs, frustrated businessmen (both foreign and British), common workers from the everyday construction sights on top of skyscrapers, even Macdonalds employees. All were rallied under one reason, one answer they wanted to know. Where the fuck was the electricity? Hospitals screamed for the life support machines to be turned back on as the blank faced police held their guns level at the baying crowds beyond the suddenly feeble gates trembling at the fearsome actions of citizens. Meanwhile the prime minister sat inside his tiny stone walls like a snail hidden in a shell about to be crushed by the giant foot that was the gargantuan mob. He did nothing, just as always. He sat inside pretending he still had some form of power as he thought everyone needed him as a leader but everyone else knew otherwise. True they may need a leader but never one as feeble as him, a greasy haired public school boy who was virtually an intellectual school dropout since all the successful ones had actually gone on to do worthwhile jobs. There was no worth to a sharply dressed man who only just rivalled the same level of charisma as plankton. Who was to be a leader then? In fact not just a leader but the leader, the leader of every person on this small isle that had steeped history through its influence like the grand shadow of a tiny spider. Who was charismatic, fearless, tough, smart, enthusiastic? Millions could beg for that role but few possessed the skills to become one spoken of in such a way that would lead the country in this time of darkness beyond hysteria and chaos. One of those few stood up on the hands of her work companions and led the march on the iron gates in an event that would be later called “The march of light”. Raised up by her inspired colleagues and sighted by the masses she caught the attention of every single person there. She was beautiful, golden platted hair running down her back into the soft winds that forewarned rain, her top a uniform from a local clothes shop she worked at as a manager. She was common and this was the first prestique required for anyone hoping to become the new age queen yet someone everyone looked for and worshipped in a way that no one could. She was hard faced though with determination etched into her features as she took her first step on the wilful palms of the mass of bodies raised like a path to her destiny, they all wanted one of them to rise up and take this opportunity. She practically strolled across the open air as if it were nothing until she approached the gate itself where the guards lifted their rifles in anticipation of what? A threat? She raised her hands to the sky in a mocking reply to their actions.
“You think this is so simple a situation that you can just shoot the messenger of the people?” She yelled above the clamour of the crowd even though it had quietened down considerably.
The guards shared hasty looks as they decided that she may well be trying to bait them.
“It’s far simpler than that gentlemen.” She said pointedly as she grinned a white smile at the pair. “Either help us get in and beat down the coward you’re housing or we knock these walls out with our fists and you shoot at us. Are you really going to over-estimate how much ammo you have?”
With that the two lowered their guns and let the crowd take its course. The girl above stood tall as she faced the crowd which to her amazement hushed to near silence just to hear her speech.
“Today has brought an unsettling inconvenience to us all, one that I suspect is far more than just an inconvenience as nothing seems to be giving us electricity. This is life changing people and today is the day we choose our future for the first in a very long time, I would say we haven’t had that kind of freedom since before kings and queens, the freedom to go where we want, to truly make our own society that we wish for. Some of this may scare you but I swear if you elect me your leader, no your queen, then I will make a society better than any a droll and spineless man like the prime minister could create. Lend me your strength and I’ll lead us to a better life. Today is the day to realise dreams and we shall start by tearing down this establishment and finding all the guns we can for our security!”
