The frail bushes swayed in the cold breeze, sending a shiver down Kuro's spine.
"W-where are you going, Iris?" Kuro spoke quietly, his voice distant and afraid. His Mother-wolf growled, huffing."I'm leaving this awful, sinful place.. all our pack did was care about power and strength and would slaughter for the love of it.." She spoke boldly, facing away from Kuro. Kuro felt his eyes burn, tearing up. He didn't understand why his mother would abandon him...
"D-don't leave m-me! Please.. you're all I have.." Kuro whispered, closing his eyes mournfully. Iris was silent for a moment. All was silent. The only sound was the whispering wind ruffling Kuro's fur. Iris' fur glowed silver in the moonlight, bringing out her wistful blue eyes as she turned to look at her son.
"You have your brother. Isn't that enough for you, or are you like the rest of them.." She exaggerated the word 'them.'
"No! I am not and never will be like our pack.." Kuro glared up at the sky, frustrated and distraught with defeat. Iris simply closed her eyes and stuck her nose up in the air, whipping around and sped through the dark woods as swiftly as her legs could take her. Shocked with grief, Kuro let out a depressed howl, lasting at least a minute or two. Lowering his head, he gazing behind him into the den he'd been born in, raised in and planned to live forever in. Ducking his head lower, he cautiously crept into the den, breathing in the scent of his Mother-wolf. He turned slowly to look at his brother, who was sleeping soundly with no idea about what just happened. Kuro looked at him, his expression a mix of spite and guilt. He wish he could wake him up and tell him everything.. but he didn't want to be here anymore. He wanted to leave and forget everything, leave his brother and pack behind, leave and have a fresh beginning somewhere... somewhere far away from here. Shaking his head, thoughts clouding his mind, Kuro bent down and licked his brother between the ears a couple times, careful not to wake him. Sighing, Kuro decided. He left the den gradually, each step weighing him down like boulders in his paws. He sniffed the fresh air timidly, peering into the forest that his Mother-dog has cowered away into. He instead turned to the opposite direction; a gravel path drowned in crumpled, dry autumn leaves and massive trees lining the path. He walked down the narrow path, walking for what seemed like hours and hours. He looked up at the sky, noticing it began to lighten a bit. The sky was turning pale shades of red and orange, the moon, looking translucent, still hung in the sky. The sun was rising upon an open horizon line, the trees clearing with a huge mountain in view, the sun lazily behind it. Kuro sighed, a little out of breathe but in awe at the beautiful sky. He scanned the ground he was in, choosing to take a little slope to the left of him that lead into a little forest with thick trees and a mossy ground. There was a hollowed bit of earth under a tree stump, big enough for a fox.
This'll be good enough. He thought, digging around the entrance to make it a bit more wider before crouching in. It was a bit snug, but it'll do. He curled up, shivering at the slight breeze coming through the gap and wrapped his tail as tightly as he could around his body, looking like a ball of messy fluff.(A/N: this chapter/prologue was only short because it was an "Intro." All other chapters will be way longer ! 💖)
