"I'm Superman!", He would shout and run around the whole house. "You're 19 years old, when will you grow up", his parents would chastise."Superman?! You aren't even fit enough to be Howard the Duck", his friends would jokingly (according to them) and rudely (according to him) say. "Man-child, juvenile, indisciplined, immature", the society would say. And then there was Her, more beautiful than Lois Lane or Pepper Potts, more nimble than Gamora and definitely smarter than Barbara Gordon. She was obviously out of our Superman's reach. And aren't we supposed to love what we can't have? But that was not the case with our Superman, he loved her because she genuinely was a good soul. How did he know? He saw her everyday in class. And yet she really was out of his reach. One day he saw her crying, silently, somewhere no one could find her. He wanted to fly to her and help, but was he strong enough? Didn't matter because if he could let those doe-like eyes get wet then his love was useless and pointless. So he ran to her thinking that he flew to her, "Tell me what troubles you, Superman can help". "Leave me alone and grow up you idiot!" she hissed. "No one can help me" she sobbed. "Stop believing in this nonsense and just go away from here" she begged. "Please just for once indulge in my asinine ministrations, Ask and you shall receive, Just tell me what ails you, this Man of Steel will take all your problems away" he begged with conviction. She told him about her problem and he patiently listened without judging her for even once and her problem was solved. Another day saved by Superman, our hero felt proud.
But if there's Superman then there's definitely going to be Lex Luthor, Doomsday, Brainiac and Zod, isn't it? Yes there were. Her dark past was more sinister than Lex but our Superman fought. Her insecurities were more cruel than Brainiac but Superman burnt them all away with his Heat Vision. Her doubts were as vicious as Doomsday, they had nearly killed our Superman, but he came back, actually he never left her. Society was more brutal on them than Zod, but Superman sent all the questioning eyes to the Phantom Zone. You might ask, What about Kryptonite? Every Superman story is incomplete without that. Yes there was Kryptonite too, not the green, red, blue or gold Kryptonite though. This Kryptonite was different, it wasn't a rock, it was living actually, it breathed, she breathed, laughed and cried with him everyday, but instead of making him weak Kryptonite only made him stronger. They both made each other stronger.
*Several hugs, kisses, winks, a proposal and an acceptance later*
"Take me somewhere new somewhere far" she said "Let's go to Endor, there will be no one except us" he suggested "But Superman's planet is Kandor and isn't Endor from Star Wars?" she replied "You know Star Wars?! But I thought you didn't like geeky stuff?!" he said " I do, Now, I need it to understand the Superman I love " she said.
The crime in Gotham and Metropolis continued to rise but our Superman wasn't strong enough to stop it, but he was fine with it, for he was content enough in being Superman just for one person. He wasn't the whole world's superhero, he was just one person's hero, Hers, and he was more than happy with it.
