Clothing Conversations

"What the hell are you wearing?" My mum gasped in horror. I rolled my eyes at her.

"Calm down. They're just clothes." I tried to reason. She pointed at Dannie accusingly.

"This is your fault!" She hissed. She had no right to say that. He's done nothing wrong!

"He had nothing to do with it! I'm just sick of cross dressing!" I argued defending Dannie. She glared at me.

"You have worn them for years. When you are out of my house, then you can wear whatever you want!" She yelled, "Now get your things, we're going home!" I felt tears sting my eyes. God! This woman refuses to listen to me! I went upstairs, Dannie following close behind. I grabbed my stuff from his room and turned to him.

"I'm so sorry." I said, my voice cracking. He hugged me.

"It's not your fault. She just refuses to listen." He soothed and rubbed my back, "Now go, before she throws another fit." He smiled reassuringly and walked me back downstairs.

"I don't want you near her again, do you understand me?" She told Dannie. He smirked and nodded.

"Sure," was his only response. When her back was turned, I looked at him and he waved with a carefree smile. I can still see him at school. A small smile slipped onto my face and I waved back at him. We walked to our house and my mum slammed the door.

"What's going on out here?" My dad asked. He saw my face and immediately knew.

"Did you know that Autumn was at that bitch's house?" She asked my dad. I looked at her appalled. How could she say that? She turned to me and I glared at her.

"Dad didn't know. I simply said I was going to a friend's house. And don't you dare call Ms. Lacey a bitch." I spat. She glared at me.

"Where'd you get those clothes?" I could see my dad behind my mum. He looked apologetic. I smiled.

"The store." She looked furious. She turned back to my father. I looked at him with a look that said 'don't tell her.' His eyes told me he understood what I was doing. He looked at my mum with a raised eyebrow.

"What do you want me to do? He gets an allowance. He's allowed to do whatever he wishes. Hence the word 'allow'." I almost laughed at that.

"How can you be okay with this? She's been perfectly fine wearing the clothes I bought! So why now?"

"If you'd allow him the chance to explain, then maybe you'd understand." He responded calmly. I smiled at my dad. My mum just stormed off. I thanked my dad and went to my room. An idea sprung in my head. I ran out my room and raced to my dad's study.

"Hey, dad?"

"Yes, Autumn?" He chuckled. I looked around with a sheepish smile.

"Can we paint my room a different color?"

"Which color did you have in mind?" He asked suspiciously.

"I don't know. Midnight blue or grey, black or neon purple." I muttered. He chuckled.

"How about midnight blue and grey?" He suggested. My eyes lit up.

"That sounds awesome!" I exclaimed, "Dad, you're a genius!"

"I'll buy you a new comforter set, too, as a thank you for not telling your mother." He said. I nodded with a snicker.

"Thank you, dad, for everything." I smiled. He smiled back and waved for me to go back to my room so he could finish work. I laughed and walked out. I was walking down the hall toward my room when I saw my mum.
